Job summary

Central Michigan University is seeking a Journeyman Plumber to perform skilled plumbing work in installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of plumbing systems in accordance with codes and safety standards. The position handles blueprints, materials selection, and coordination with contractors to ensure high-quality workmanship and campus service excellence.

Three positions are available in Mt. Pleasant, MI.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Michigan Journeyman Plumbing License.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to become approved driver.
  • Ability to obtain ASSE Backflow Certification within 12 months.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
  • Ability to use technology to access email and internet.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to be on-call and work overtime, nights, weekends, holidays.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds, climb a ladder, and work outdoors.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs, replaces, maintains, and installs fixtures and related components.
  • Water supply and distribution lines.
  • Sanitary drainage and waste systems.
  • Indirect/special waste systems.
  • Traps, interceptors, and separators.
  • Storm drainage systems.
  • Special piping and storage systems.
  • Potable/non-potable water systems.
  • Subsurface gray water.
  • Maintain swimming pools and hydrotherapy systems.
  • Plan work and obtain materials.
  • Operate tools and equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and implement solutions.
  • Miss dig utility location services.
  • Work with other trades.
  • Keep records and request supplies.

Position Title JOURNEYMAN PLUMBER (3 POSITIONS)

Position Summary

Performs skilled plumbing work in the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair, of plumbing systems and related fixtures in accordance with applicable codes, safety standards, and industry best practices. This work involves diagnosing issues, interpreting blueprints, selecting appropriate materials, and ensuring proper functioning of water supply and waste disposal. This position may also coordinate with contractors or other trades and is responsible for ensuring high-quality workmanship, customer service, and compliance with local and state plumbing regulations.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED .
Possession of a State of Michigan Journeyman Plumbing License.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Ability to become an approved driver under the university’s vehicle policy.
Ability to obtain ASSE Backflow Prevention Certification within 12 months of hire.
Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
Ability to provide a high level of service excellence to campus customers.
Ability to work from blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
Ability to effectively use technology to access e-mail and the internet.
Demonstrated ability to follow and/or interpret oral or written directions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Repairs, replaces, maintains, and installs the following:

  • - Fixtures, faucets, and fixture fittings
  • - Water supply and distribution lines
  • - Sanitary drainage
  • - Indirect/special waste
  • - Traps, interceptors, and separators
  • - Storm drainage systems
  • - Special piping and storage systems
  • - Potable/non-potable water systems
  • - Subsurface gray water

Maintains and repairs swimming, rehabilitation, and hydrotherapy pool systems.

Plans work and obtains necessary materials, equipment, and supplies.

Operates all required tools and equipment including but not limited to power equipment and hand tools.

Conducts preventive maintenance.

Troubleshoots, develops, and implements solutions.

Conducts miss dig utility location services.

Works effectively with other skill trades.

Keeps necessary records as required.
Requests supplies and equipment as necessary.

Performs other duties related to the job classification as assigned.
