POSITION SUMMARY

TheDallas CollegeFacilitiesManagementDepartment supports the facility needs forDallas Collegewhile providing responsible stewardship and efficient operation of theCollege's physical assets.The Facilities Management Department is responsible forapproximately 5,000,000 sq.ft.of physical space and over 1400 acres of land, located across multiple locations in Dallas County.The position ofJourneymanPlumbersupports that effort through the performance of advanced skilled craftwork in theplumbingtrade.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experiencedjourneymanplumber with exceptional diagnostic skills and the ability to install andmaintainplumbing systems and ensure that systems are functioning safely and effectively.

  • Musthave experienceand the ability to assemble, install and repair pipes,fittings, and fixtures of heating,water,and drainagesystems.

  • Knowledge of state laws and regulations andadhereto local building codes, ensuring asafe workenvironment.

  • Ability to read blueprints and other technical documents to assess building needs such as pipe/plumbingfixture plans.

  • Proficiencyusing plumbing tools,materials,and equipment.

  • Abilitytoidentifycomplexproblems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

  • Ability tomaintaincooperative working relationships with contractors, construction workers,electricians,and other individuals within the Dallas College environment.

  • Strong work ethic and excellentorganizational skills, self-starter able to manage and prioritize multiple assignments with attentionto detail.

  • Capable of assessing situations todeterminethe importance,urgency,and risks, and make cleardecisions which aretimelyand considerate of the safety of the facility.

  • Ability to train apprentices inproper plumbing techniques and practices.

  • Abilityto prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously with high attention to detail.

  • Musthavestrong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written andprovideexceptionalcustomer service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures the highest quality ofPlumbingwork across all Dallas College locations.

  • Troubleshoots andresolvePlumbingissues at multiple locations of Dallas College.

  • Install,repair,andmaintainsinks, showers, water fountains, commodes, urinals, waterheaters,conditioners,and plumbingfixtures.

  • Maintaininventory ofplumbingsupplies and may prepare requisitions.

  • Works with otherfacilities teammatesto ensure the highest level of customer service and providessafe and healthy buildings for Dallas College students, faculty, and staff.

  • Assistother facilities management teams asrequired.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Performsotherdutiesasassigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending over,stooping, twisting, talking, hearing, climbing ladders, using stairs, reaching overhead, crouching,kneeling,or crawling. Pushing or pulling 10-50lbs., lifting 10-80lbs., carrying 10-50lbs., repetitive use of arms and legs, driving, balancing, manual dexterity-fine manipulation or grasping.May require working in adverse weather conditions.Requires in-person interaction and coordination of work with other employees, students, external clients, partners or customers and/or immediate access to equipment, documents, or other information located only in a College workspace. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and a Licensed Journeyman Plumber plus five (5) years of related experience.

  • Ability to work extended hours beyond the regular 8:00 am to 5:00 pm workday including nights and weekends.

  • Current and valid Texas driver's license required for offsite travel.

  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.
