Job summary

Carmeuse Lime & Stone Inc. is seeking an experienced maintenance professional in Gary, IN to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment and systems within a 24/7 operation.

The role emphasizes preventive maintenance, safety, and reliability across conveyors and pumps, with rotating shifts and potential on-call duties. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, a Ramsay Journeyman Exam, and 5+ years of industrial mechanical experience.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of mechanical experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Willing and able to work overtime, be on-call on a rotation, work on weekends or Holidays if needed, in a 24/7/365 facility
  • Willing and able to work rotating shifts 7a-3p, 3p-11p, 11p-7a

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment, machinery, and facility systems.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to reduce equipment downtime.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic issues and implement repairs.
  • Install, align, adjust, and replace machine components and parts as needed.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergencies in a safe and timely manner.
  • Maintain conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, and other production equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, equipment manuals, work orders, and technical drawings.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, and equipment history accurately.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, lockout/tagout/tryout procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with production and operations teams to improve equipment reliability and performance.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and cost reduction in maintenance processes.
  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and facility improvement projects.
  • Cleans and lubricates parts.

Hourly Wage Rate: $38.04

Responsibilities:
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment, machinery, and facility systems.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to reduce equipment downtime.

  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and maintenance testing equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, equipment manuals, work orders, and technical drawings.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, and equipment history accurately.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, lockout/tagout/tryout procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with production and operations teams to improve equipment reliability and performance.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and cost reduction in maintenance processes.
  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and facility improvement projects.
  • Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.
  • Cleans and lubricates parts.
Qualified candidates will have:
  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Overall qualification results on a Ramsay Journeyman Exam.
  • 5+ years of mechanical experience in an industrial manufacturing environment;

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved, written or oral instructions.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; in outside weather conditions; and is frequently exposed to petroleum products, and wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud.
