Job summary

Carmeuse in Lansing, MI seeks a skilled heavy equipment operator to perform excavation, grading, and site preparation on active construction projects.

You will conduct pre-shift inspections, read site plans, coordinate with supervisors and drivers, log maintenance, and help ensure safety and efficiency on every job site.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and haul trucks.
  • Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections.
  • Read site plans and project specifications.
  • Maintain equipment and report issues.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and other workers to ensure project progress.

Job description

  • Operate heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, skid steers, backhoes, haul trucks, and other assigned machinery.
  • Perform pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.
  • Conduct excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, material movement, and site preparation activities.
  • Read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and project specifications.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report mechanical issues, malfunctions, or safety concerns.
  • Perform routine maintenance, including fueling, lubricating, cleaning, and minor adjustments.
  • Follow all safety regulations, company policies, MSHA and OSHA requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, utilities, and environmental hazards.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, truck drivers, laborers, and other equipment operators to ensure efficient project completion.
  • Complete equipment inspection reports, maintenance logs, and production records.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to see, hear, and react quickly to changing job-site conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Working Conditions
  • Outdoor construction, industrial, quarry, agricultural, or utility environments.
  • Exposure to dust, vibration, noise, and changing weather conditions.
  • May require overtime, weekends, and travel to different job sites.
  • Regular operation of heavy machinery around moving vehicles and personnel.
