Job summary

UT MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Journeyman Electrician to maintain, repair, and troubleshoot electrical systems in our Texas facilities. The role involves responding to customer calls, supporting emergencies, and ensuring compliance with safety standards in a large, hospital environment.

This position requires a valid Journeyman Electrician license in Texas, post-journeyman experience in commercial/industrial electrical work, and eligibility to drive as needed across Houston-area

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship preferred.
  • One year post-journeyman experience in commercial/industrial electrical work.
  • JRNY-E Journeyman Electrician Texas required upon hire.
  • EL-M Master Electrician Texas required upon hire.
  • Preferred: Texas Driver's License Class A/B/C upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot normal and emergency electrical systems and equipment.
  • Respond promptly to customer calls and provide routine and emergency support.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on electrical panels, transformers, and related equipment.
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams for electrical installations.
  • Coordinate workflow of technicians and assist other crafts as needed.
  • Attend construction project walk-throughs and develop punch lists for discrepancies.
  • Maintain critical alarm systems and document all corrective actions and labor hours.

Job description

Patient Care and Prevention Facilities (PC&PF) is fundamental to the daily operations of MD Anderson Cancer Center. This department ensures all of the hospital’s facilities are safe, operational, and compliant with accreditation standards. It fosters an environment of growth and professional development by cultivating the skills necessary to oversee the vital maintenance operations needed throughout the institution. PC&PF also plays a longitudinal role for the institution in overseeing the construction of new facilities and the modernization of existing buildings through new software and monitoring initiatives. All of this makes PC&PF a vital and integral department in delivering world class cancer care to patients.

The ideal candidate holds a valid Journeyman Electrical License and brings hands‑on expertise in electrical systems and maintenance. They are flexible and willing to work across all Houston‑area locations, including League City, West Houston, The Woodlands, Northwest Houston as well as other.

The work location is all based in the Texas Medical Center but will travel to all Houston Area Locations as needed.

Work Schedule is Thursday and Friday 7am-3:30pm; Saturday and Sunday 7am-7-30pm

The salary range is $69,000 – $86,000 – $103,000.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Maintain, Repair, Troubleshoot 1.Ensure Proper Functioning of Electrical Systems and Maintain O&M Inventory Maintain and repair normal and emergency power electrical systems. Prepare purchase requisition/stock issue forms to acquire parts and materials required to install or repair electrical equipment.

Maintain an Efficient Response to Work Orders and Provide Support to Other Crafts Perform preventive maintenance of all electrical panels, transformers, and other electrical systems. Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical equipment Provide back‑up support for the other crafts

Participate in walk‑thru inspections of construction projects and create punch lists for discrepancies.

Maintain Critical Alarm Systems Respond to all critical equipment alarms.

Interprets and works from instructions, blueprints, sketches and diagrams in the installation of electrical systems. May coordinate the workflow of technicians and mechanics. Investigates outages.

Respond to customer calls Respond to customer calls and provide customer services

Report and Document Provide complete information to accurately document corrective action, labor hours, and materials used on work orders. Timely communication to supervisor of any other issues encountered during the performance of work.

Emergency responses Emergency responses for facilities including code red alarms

EDUCATION
  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Completion of a recognized apprenticeship.
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: One year Post‑journeyman experience in commercial/industrial electrical work involving interior and exterior wiring and the repair of electrical equipment and systems.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Required: JRNY-E – Journeyman Electrician Texas. Upon Hire or
  • Required: EL-M – Master Electrician Texas. Upon Hire
  • Preferred: TDL – Texas Drivers License Valid Class A, B or C Texas driver’s license and eligible to drive State and institutional vehicles. Upon Hire
