POSITION SUMMARY
As a Journeyman Lineman, you will be responsible for the construction and maintenance of the Jasper County REMC electrical distribution system. You will work with high voltage lines and equipment in both energized and de-energized situations. You will install, repair and maintain electrical distribution equipment and distribution lines. This position requires working alone and/or working as part of a crew in all weather conditions, day or night and will be subject to an on-call rotation.
WHAT YOU’LL DOYour role will include working on Jasper County REMC’s electric distribution system. You will be assisting with the Connect-Internet Fiber distribution system as needed. You will be working in all weather conditions, during daytime and overnight hours and will be subject to working for extended periods of time as detailed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. You will be interpreting blueprints, staking sheets and other electrical specifications. You will be required to attend all safety training programs and expected to work with safety at the forefront of your mind. You will be working on both energized and de-energized lines as you construct, maintain and repair electric facilities. You will be using both power and manual equipment to complete tasks. As a Journeyman Lineman, you will be expected to complete job briefings at each job site to review expectations, procedures and safety. You will be using both aerial and digger trucks, but there are circumstances where you will need to climb poles. You will install both overhead and underground services for new construction and/or upgrade existing services. Your day may include speaking with members out on the job and you will be expected to provide them with excellent customer service. You will be responsible for tracking your hours appropriately based on the type of work completed and submitting accurate timesheets. You will work closely with cooperative personnel, members, contractors as well as many other external representatives.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOUA high school diploma or a General Education Diploma and successful completion of an accredited 4 (four) year apprenticeship program are required to be considered for this position. You are required to either currently possess a valid Indiana Class A CDL Driver’s License or obtain a Class A CDL within twelve (12) months of hire. You must obtain and maintain a Class A CDL as a term and condition of employment.
You must also permanently reside in or be willing to relocate to within a fifteen (15) mile radius, as the crow flies, of the Jasper County REMC headquarters within a period of twelve (12) months from your date of hire as a term and condition of employment to be considered for this position.
You must have an effective working knowledge and familiarity with tools and methods used in electrical construction, installation and maintenance.
You must be able to regularly lift up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Bend in all directions, squeeze with arms and hands, climb ladders and poles, use shovels and other manual equipment, and operate power operated equipment using hands and legs. You must be familiar with operating aerial and digger trucks.
A strong understanding of Rural Utilities Service (RUS) specifications, National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), ANSI standards, OSHA regulations and other applicable codes and regulations is necessary. A skill set that includes strong decision making and problem-solving abilities and mathematical abilities are necessary. Excellent communication and listening skills are required.
