Responsibilities

  • Be on security and on-call rotation.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair malfunctions in HVAC systems including rooftop equipment.
  • Install new HVAC systems and components.
  • Relocate and expand HVAC systems as needed.
  • Repair, replace or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches and wiring.
  • Fabricate, assemble and install duct work and piping per specs and code.
  • Wire and connect motors, compressors and temperature controls.
  • Maintain freon dispensing records to meet federal requirements.
  • Assist energy manager with energy conservation surveys.
  • Receive and complete corrective and preventive maintenance work orders.
  • Estimate material and labor; maintain inventory and records.
  • Inspect completed work and ensure cleanliness.
  • Collaborate with principals and supervisors on projects.
  • Detect needed repairs following inspection procedures.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.

Job Description
Primary Purpose

Under general supervision, maintain, repair and install heating and air conditioning systems and equipment throughout the district.

Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in district facilities

Conduct preventive maintenance on HVAC systems throughout the district.

Education/Certifications

High School diploma or GED

Valid Texas driver's license

Texas Refrigerant & Equipment Certification

Experience

Five years' experience in Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning field

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repairs, corrective and preventive, maintenance and installation techniques

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics and written reference material

Ability to perform mathematical calculations

Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

Ability to use hand and power tools

Supervisory Responsibilities

Assist in the training and supervision of skilled trades HVAC workers and A/C Filter Mechanics.

Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands

Tools/Equipment Used: Meters, gauges, welding equipment, ladder, hoist, hand and power tools, pipe bender, propane torch. Light truck or van

Posture: Continuous walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, carrying and heavy lifting.

Motion: Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, outside and inside

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide and statewide travel Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent district wide travel, occasional prolonged and irregular hours; work indoors and outdoors to conduct on-site inspection of all facilities and construction projects; work around machinery with moving parts; work on ladders or scaffolding

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • You will be required to be on a security and on call rotation
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of heating and air conditioning systems, (HVAC) including rooftop equipment.
  • Install new heating and air conditioning systems and components.
  • Relocate and expand existing heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems as needed.
  • Repair, replace or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring.
  • Fabricate, assemble and install duct work and piping according to specifications and code.
  • Wire and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls and controls humidity according to wiring schematics.
  • Maintain freon dispensing records to meet federal requirements.
  • Assist energy manager to complete energy conservation surveys to realize the most efficient and cost-effective use of HVAC energy.
  • Receive and complete corrective and preventive maintenance work orders.
  • Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
  • Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
  • Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment and materials.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
  • Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
  • Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.

Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $20.66 to $27.11 Per Hour
