Job summary

The Smithsonian Institution seeks an Electrician to provide electrical services across its facilities, installing wiring systems, fixtures, controls and equipment to support the mission, safety and comfort of occupants and visitors.

Must hold an active Journeyman or Master electrician's license and a valid State or District of Columbia driver's license; available to work late shifts, weekends and holidays, and may be called for emergencies.

• Overall experience and training must indicate possession of the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position.
• Resume must be no more than two (2) pages and should clearly demonstrate how your experience aligns with the responsibilities and specialized experience required for this position.
• Volunteer work and unpaid experience can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide electrical services throughout the Smithsonian facilities for the installation of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls and equipment for the mission, health, comfort and safety of occupants and visitors.
• Repair, modify, maintain and troubleshoot the premise wiring systems of facilities to include interior and exterior wiring, lighting, control circuits, emergency and standby power systems and signaling circuit wiring together with all their associated hardware, fittings and wiring devices, both permanently and temporarily installed.
• Require extensive adaption of methods, including the fabrication, installation, modification, and/or troubleshooting of specialized electrical control or monitoring systems and equipment designed to meet unique conditions associated with research projects.
