Job summary

The Journeyman Electrician at Birmingham Board of Education is responsible for the installation of electrical frameworks and the detection and correction of faults in existing electrical systems.

Under general supervision, you will work with maintenance staff to keep school and central office facilities in operating condition so that educational programs run smoothly, with comfortable classrooms and safe equipment.

Qualifications

  • Active State of Alabama/City of Birmingham Journeyman Electrical Certificate.
  • Ability to repair electrical issues by replacing or installing components, wiring, or devices as needed.
  • A minimum of one year of experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fire alarm controls and sensing equipment.
  • Ability to install and maintain energy conservation controls and lighting control equipment.
  • Proficiency with National Electrical Code and local codes.
  • A valid Alabama driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug test.

  • Willingness to answer emergency and after hour calls if conditions warrant.
  • Maintain excellent customer service skills with coworkers and staff to promote efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description:

The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for the installation of electrical frameworks, as well as the detection and correction of faults in existing electrical systems. Under general supervision, works as a team with other maintenance personnel to keep the school and central office facilities in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems/interruptions to the educational programs, especially comfortable classrooms, facilities, and safe equipment.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all BCS policies, procedures and guidelines and report any violations of policies, procedures, or guidelines to immediate supervisor
