Michigan Power Systems is seeking a two-man crew, consisting of one Journeyman Electrician and one apprentice, for a project in Grand Rapids. The project runs from April to June/July 2025 (3-4 months). Candidates must have at least 2+ years of experience, with a preference for those experienced in underground electrical installations. Experience operating heavy machinery such as backhoes, skid steers, and excavators is beneficial but not required. Candidates should be located in or willing to commute to the Grand Rapids area. Please note that no travel reimbursement is provided.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in planning electrical installations to minimize waste, ensure accessibility for maintenance, and adhere to safety and code standards.
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit and cable trays; pull wiring through conduit or lay cables in trays.
- Connect wiring to switch gears, junction boxes, lighting fixtures, and equipment; install lighting, ballast, and transformers.
- Assist with troubleshooting and repairing medium voltage motor controls.
- Install control and distribution equipment such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels; perform instrument installations.
- Connect power cables to equipment like electric motors and install grounding leads.
- Observe functioning of installed systems to detect hazards and determine necessary adjustments or replacements.
- Perform electrical function checks.
- Use tools including rulers, hand tools, hack saws, pipe threaders, conduit benders, and ladders; maintain tools and supplies.
- Disassemble defective electrical equipment and handle materials, tools, and supplies transportation.
- Assist in lifting, positioning, and fastening wiring, conduit, cable trays, and motors.
- Perform clerical and administrative tasks related to project documentation.
- Assist with motor control center bus connections, splice installations, stress cones, and fiber optic cables.
- Install tubing runs and perform electric/steam trace systems.
- Attend safety training and adhere to all safety and company regulations.
- Travel to and from the jobsite using personal vehicle or public transportation.
