Job summary

Conductor Power is seeking a Journeyman Electrician to support installation, maintenance, and commissioning of electrical systems on substations and utility-scale solar EPC projects in North Carolina. The role emphasizes safety, code compliance, and collaboration with project teams.

You will read schematics, perform terminations, and guide apprentices while ensuring high-quality, reliable energy solutions for renewable projects.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid NC Journeyman Electrician license or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
• Minimum 4 years of electrical experience; substation/solar/renewable energy projects preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install, assemble, test, and maintain electrical wiring, conduit, equipment, and fixtures per NEC and codes.
• Perform terminations, grounding, and testing for substation equipment and switchgear.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues and implement corrective actions.
• Enforce safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and PPE; participate in safety meetings.
• Lead small groups; provide directions to apprentices and laborers; review work for quality.

Job Summary:

The Journeyman Electrician plays a critical role in the installation, maintenance, and commissioning of electrical systems on substations and utility-scale solar EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) projects. This position requires technical expertise, adherence to safety and compliance standards, and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams to deliver high-quality renewable energy solutions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role does not have formal management authority but is responsible for supervising, training, and mentoring assigned Apprentice Electricians and laborers. The Journeyman ensures that all tasks performed by apprentices meet quality and safety standards and provides daily direction under the guidance of the Substation Foreman or Superintendent.

What You’ll Do

• Install, assemble, test, and maintain electrical wiring, conduit, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with project specifications, NEC, and local/state codes.
• Perform electrical terminations, grounding, and testing for substation equipment, including panels, breakers, equipment cabinet enclosures, switchgear, and other balance-of-system components.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and one-line diagrams.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly.
• Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and PPE requirements; actively participate in jobsite safety meetings.
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, inspections, and material usage.
• Assist with commissioning activities and final inspections with AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction).
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment safely and responsibly.
• Provide daily task directions to Apprentice Electricians and laborers, assigning work and reviewing completed tasks for quality and compliance.
• Lead small work groups on task-specific scopes, such as wire pulls, grounding, or combiner box installs.
• Review and sign off on apprentice work prior to inspections or commissioning.
• Enforce safe work practices among apprentices and assigned laborers, reporting unsafe behavior or conditions to site leadership.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures.
• All other duties as assigned or delegated.

What You Bring

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Journeyman Electrician in the state of North Carolina (or ability to obtain through testing or reproprocity)
• Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and OSHA standards.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and one-line diagrams.
• Skilled in the use of electrical testing equipment (multimeters, megohmmeters, etc.).
• Proficiency in conduit bending, wire pulling, terminations, and grounding systems.
• Proficiency in producing cable pulling schedules.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for electrical issues.
• Ability to enforce safe work practices and lead by example.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to mentor apprentices.
• Physical ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions, lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work at heights.

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid Journeyman Electrician License in North Carolina (or ability to obtain)
• Minimum 4 years of electrical experience; substation, solar, or renewable energy project experience preferred.
• Prior experience supervising or mentoring apprentices strongly preferred.
• Current OSHA 10/30 certification, NFPA 70E training, or equivalent (preferred but not required).

Physical Requirements:

• Occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying, walking, and standing.
• Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and other team members.
• When navigating a job site, the ability to move around project sites, which may involve walking, climbing stairs, and navigating uneven terrain.
• Valid driver’s license
