Wisconsin Center District Job Description – Journeyman Electrician
Position Overview: Reporting to the Chief Electrician, the Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installs and repairs of electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical components of industrial machinery and equipment. The Journeyman Electrician will perform electrical troubleshooting and maintenance through well-versed knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) within the Wisconsin Center District campus (Baird Center, Miller High Life Theatre, and UWM Panther Arena).
Wisconsin Center District Job Description – Journeyman Electrician
Position Overview: Reporting to the Chief Electrician, the Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installs and repairs of electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical components of industrial machinery and equipment. The Journeyman Electrician will perform electrical troubleshooting and maintenance through well-versed knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) within the Wisconsin Center District campus (Baird Center, Miller High Life Theatre, and UWM Panther Arena).
Responsibilities
- Installs temporary electrical services for events; runs overhead cables, wires and splices cables, makes temporary hook-ups of motors and other portable equipment, as requested
- Interprets blueprints, sketches, and specifications for making temporary power installations, permanent electrical installations, and repairs
- Installs conduit, transformers, signaling systems, pull boxes, and switches
- Services and repairs starters, motors, and various other types of electrical equipment and apparatus
- Tests, locates, and repairs issues with electrical circuits and equipment
- Installs, modifies, maintains, and repairs interior wiring
- Installs, replaces, and maintains assorted industrial lighting fixtures and connections
- Uses voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, and hand tools ordinarily used in the trade
- Manages and maintains electrical equipment, as well as any rental equipment utilized
- Pulls work orders to ensure timely, accurate completion of scheduled preventative maintenance, work orders, and tasks
- Prepares rough working drawings; estimates materials and parts needed and obtains materials within specified budget
- Assists in required daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual, and annual required building inspections, and institute required corrections and/or Preventative Maintenance systems and schedules as needed.
- Manages work request and preventative maintenance requirements through an on-line work order system including, responding to all service calls and verifying completion.
- Attends work on time as scheduled and adhere to the attendance policy.
- Promotes a safe working environment for all employees by following the life safety and emergency program as needed.
- Coordinates the operations activities with other building departments and show-related contractors.
- Investigates and makes suggestions to the Vice President of Facilities and/or Chief Electrician concerning energy conservation
- Performs calibration of equipment and preventative maintenance, as needed
- Ensures compliance with City, State, and other safety codes

Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Ability to safely operate mechanized equipment and high reach lifts
- Ability to perform basic computer skills and comprehend building plans/specifications; ability to distinguish between colors
- Strong project management and organizational skills in which attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects on time is essential
- Ability to work independently and efficiently; exercise initiative, resourcefulness and good judgement
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Flexible and comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work flexible and irregular hours that may vary due to functions and may include day, evening, weekends, and holidays as event calendar or deadlines dictate
- Ability to read, write, understand and speak English; perform basic mathematical functions (add, subtract, multiply and divide)
- Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in oral and written form

Education & Experience
- Required
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience required
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience and/or training with electrical
- State of Wisconsin Electrical Journeyman Certificate
- Valid Driver’s License; driving record within MVR policy guidelines
- Preferred
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of Products: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Outlook

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, and. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to hear to be able to listen to a radio to respond to and deliver calls and instructions.

Working Conditions
