Full Time Technical Kentwood, MI, US

10 days ago Requisition ID: 1039

Salary Range: $38.00 To $48.00 Hourly

JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICIAN (INDUSTRIAL)
Serve Electric in Grand Rapids, MI
ABOUT THIS ROLE

As an Industrial Journeyman Electrician, you'll lead electrical work on industrial job sites: managing installations, directing crew members, upholding code and safety standards, and representing the Serve Electric standard on every project. This is a field position. If you thrive in different industrial environments and bring the technical depth to hit the ground running on day one, this is built for you.

WHAT WE OFFER

We know skilled industrial electricians have options. Here's why Serve Electric is worth your look:

  • Competitive Pay: Wages that reflect your experience and licensure
  • Health, dental, vision, life insurance, and HSA
  • Company Vehicle + Gas Card: You're traveling to get the job done; we cover how you get there
  • Paid Time Off
  • 401(k)
  • Safety-First Culture: Safety Equipment & Uniforms Provided
  • Real Growth Paths: Foreman -> Project Manager -> Branch Manager. We promote from within and mean it
  • In-House Apprenticeship Program: Help develop the next generation while advancing your own career
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
  • Directing and managing electrical work on industrial job sites
  • Inspecting installations to ensure quality and code compliance
  • Upholding and enforcing job site safety standards
  • Troubleshooting complex electrical issues from start to finish, often without schematics or full operator information
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, rough sketches, plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Wiring 120V, 480V, and low voltage systems
  • Working with lighting, transformers, motor controls, and switchboards
  • Measuring, threading, bending, and running EMT and rigid conduit (1/2" - 4")
  • Sizing feeders and understanding tooling requirements for each job
  • Mentoring and training apprentices and newer electricians
  • Communicating clearly with customers, the service manager, and the team
  • Organizing and planning projects of varying scale
  • Attending job site meetings and contributing to project coordination
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING

Industrial experience is strongly preferred for this role. While residential and commercial electrical experience can provide a foundation, it does not fully translate to the demands of this position. We are seeking electricians with proven industrial experience-specifically in troubleshooting, large conduit and wire pulls, motor controls, 480V systems, transformers and working within industrial environments who can contribute effectively from day one.

  • Active State of Michigan Journeyman or Master Electrician license
  • 3+ years as a Journeyman, leading crews and capable of training and mentoring apprentices
  • Demonstrated industrial electrical experience- not just listed as a skill, but hands-on, verifiable experience in industrial environments
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues from start to finish without reliance on schematics or complete customer information
  • Proficient with 120V, 480V, and low voltage systems
  • Knowledgeable in motor controls, transformers, lighting, and switchboards
  • Experience with feeder sizing requirements
  • Ability to measure, thread, bend, and run EMT and rigid conduit up to 4"
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC code
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, plans, drawings, and rough sketches
  • Comfortable working with minimal supervision and managing priorities across multiple tasks
  • Proficient in relevant computer applications (Microsoft Office, Outlook, ERP systems)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license
Nice to have:
  • Experience running projects independently, large or small
  • NFPA 70E / electrical safety compliance familiarity
  • Prior experience working for an industrial electrical contractor
