Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems in industrial equipment, including controls, drives, sensors and test equipment.
  • Plan work using electrical and mechanical theory, referencing codes and schematics.
  • Install, startup, and shut down equipment following safety procedures and OSHA rules.
  • Advise operators on safe operation and requirements for electrical/mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain maintenance records and perform preventive maintenance as directed.
  • Assist and train other maintenance staff.

Job description

OVERVIEW

The Journeyman Electrician will conduct, maintain, test and repair electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components in an industrial setting primarily on Aggregate Equipment Power Systems. Apply knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and apply skills in restoring equipment to operation. Provide skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of manufacturing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems/components controlling mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and power generation equipment in an industrial setting, including but not limited to programmable/numeral controls, PLCs, drives, VFDs, switchgear panels and power supplies, sensors, gauges, and test equipment.
  • Plan and perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
  • Install, start up, and shut down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
  • Advise operators and line mechanics on operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.
  • Inform management and line mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
  • Maintain company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance functions as directed.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.
  • Assist and train other maintenance or other technical-level employees.
  • Perform other duties as required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Educational background must include a high school diploma and two years of formal technical training
  • Must have proven knowledge of the principles of electricity and electrical design
  • Valid MN Electrician License
  • Two years of journeyman’s experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures from blueprints, schematics and sketches or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
  • 1‑2 years of proven experience in the electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields, with ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas
  • Experience and ability to work in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
  • A thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment, including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes
  • High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required
  • Exposed to high voltage electricity
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain an insurable driving record
  • Ability to climb in overhead structures, work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work
  • Must be highly safety conscious
  • Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel, individually or in a team, and especially must be able to interface and communicate with line operators to assist with repairs and troubleshooting
  • Willing to work any shift and overtime as required
  • Must be willing to travel as there may be some overnight field service work involved from time to time, including traveling with very short notice at times
