Job summary

I-State Truck Center in Billings, MT is hiring a Journeyman Diesel Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy‑duty trucks. You will work on Freightliner, Western Star, and related equipment in a busy shop with a Wednesday–Saturday schedule.

The ideal candidate has 2–5+ years of heavy‑duty experience, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to read manuals and wiring diagrams. CDL preferred, competitive wages, growth opportunities, and a stable team environment.

Qualifications

• 2–5+ years of hands-on heavy-duty diesel truck experience.
• Experience with brands such as Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Volvo, Mack, or similar.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and ECM diagnostics.
• Proficiency with diagnostic software and hand/power tools.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel trucks.
• Perform preventive maintenance and inspections.
• Repair or replace engines, transmissions, brakes, and other components.
• Welding and fabrication to repair or modify frames as needed.
• Document service reports, parts usage, and warranty records.
• Communicate with drivers and fleet managers about repairs and outcomes.
• Maintain safety, OSHA/DOT compliance and a clean work area.
