Michigan Power Systems is urgently looking for a full-time Journeyman Electrician. If you are looking to advance your career and have a constant flow of work, this is the place to be. 2+ years of commercial experience is required. Must hold a valid Journeyman's License for a minimum of 2 years, or an apprentice card for a minimum of 4 years.

As an Electrician at MPS, you will utilize your skillset working alongside a dedicated team installing service for a wide variety of commercial and light-industrial properties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist planning new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
  • Lead and set up job sites: direct and oversee a crew of 2-3, load/unload materials, compile material lists from blueprints/schematics, log daily progress.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit/cable tray. Pull wiring through conduit or lay cable in cable tray.
  • Connect wiring to switch gears, junction boxes, lighting fixtures, and equipment. Install area lighting, ballast, and transformer maintenance.
  • Lead and assist with medium voltage troubleshooting and repairing motor controls.
  • Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels. Perform instrument installations.
  • Connect power cables to equipment, such as electric motors, and install grounding leads.
  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Lead and assist in performing electrical function checks.
  • Tools used include rulers, hand tools, hacksaws, pipe threaders, conduit benders, ladders, etc.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and keep supplies and parts.
  • Disassemble defective electrical equipment such as motors, switch gears, and circuit breakers. Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Lead and assist in lifting, positioning, and fastening objects such as wiring, conduit, cable trays, and motors.
  • Perform clerical/administrative duties related to task or project documentation.
  • Lead and assist in performing motor control center buss connections, splice installations, stress cones, and fiber optic cables.
  • Install tubing runs as needed. Perform electric/steam trace systems.
  • Attend safety training as directed.
  • Must comply with all safety and company rules and regulations.
  • Employee must be able to travel to and from the job site via personal vehicle or other public forms of transportation.

Prefer candidates experienced with underground electrical installations and operating heavy-duty machinery: backhoe, skid steer, excavator, and other equipment. Must be able to travel within the Metro Detroit area.
