• Active Top Secret clearance (within five years) and eligibility for SCI/SAP access.

Responsibilities

• Apply disciplined Air Force systems engineering processes to interpret warfighter needs, execute lifecycle activities, and assess design configurations within cost, schedule, and performance constraints.
• Ensure successful subsystem integration into operational systems by evaluating risks and recommending solutions to optimize performance and meet product-support objectives.
• Provide reliable engineering analysis, technical advice, and risk assessments to senior leadership.
• Perform engineering duties across RDT&E and sustainment activities for aircraft platforms, weapons, and air-launched armament systems.
• Review and coordinate interoperability requirements to ensure compatibility between weapons and aircraft.
• Translate warfighter requirements into detailed technical specifications for development, integration, and evaluation of weapon system hardware and software.

Job description

MTSI is seeking a Journeyman Aerospace Engineer to support AFLCMC/WBZ at Tinker AFB, OK. The ideal candidate will have experience in electronics engineering in support of the design, development, test and evaluation, implementation, maintenance, production, and sustainment of new and existing weapon systems, avionics, communications systems, or subsystems.

The candidate will apply knowledge of Air Force systems acquisition; hardware and software integration; requirements analysis and allocation; computer systems architecture; and systems/subsystems testing and evaluation.

This role supports senior engineering staff in planning, executing, documenting, and verifying weapon‑system integration activities.

Duties include supporting requirements and interface analysis, preparing engineering and test documentation, participating in lab and field test events, collecting and analyzing test data, tracking technical discrepancies, and contributing to configuration control, safety, and risk‑management processes. The candidate works under defined technical guidance while developing increasing independence in systems integration and test engineering.

Role and Responsibilities:

The candidate will work independently and exercise sound judgment while performing the following tasks:

• Apply disciplined Air Force systems engineering processes to interpret warfighter needs, execute lifecycle activities, and assess design configurations within cost, schedule, and performance constraints.
• Ensure successful subsystem integration into operational systems by evaluating technical risks and recommending solutions to optimize performance and meet product‑support objectives.
• Serve as a core technical resource, providing reliable engineering analysis, technical advice, and risk assessments to senior leadership.
• Perform engineering duties across research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E), and sustainment activities for aircraft platforms, advanced weapons, and air‑launched armament systems.
• Review and coordinate interoperability requirements to ensure physical, electrical, and logical compatibility between weapons and aircraft.
• Apply deep knowledge of avionics, electrical/electronic circuits (including IEEE communication interfaces, electro‑mechanical interfaces, software control, and A/D converters), EMI/EMC, and electrical safety‑of‑flight standards.
• Maintain familiarity with Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and model‑based design concepts.
• Translate warfighter requirements into detailed technical specifications for development, integration, and evaluation of weapon system hardware and software.
• Assess system test plans and support test execution, including lab, ground, and flight test events, as a test controller or data analyst.
• Prepare technical documentation and compliance artifacts for AFLCMC Airworthiness (MIL‑HDBK‑516) and Military Flight Clearance packages.
• Ensure continued operational safety, suitability, and effectiveness (OSS&E) for fielded systems by leveraging experience with Technical Orders, Depot activities, and field‑level engineering support.
• Interpret, review, and modify engineering drawings, including electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and interface control documents (ICDs).
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for aircraft/weapon interface failures, structural issues, or electronic malfunctions, and document findings for senior review.
• Conduct technical evaluations of contractor proposals, statements of work (SOWs), and engineering estimates.
• Travel up to 25% in support of program activities.

Qualification and Education Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, systems engineering, or a related technical field from an ABET‑accredited institution, plus 3–10 years of directly applicable industry or government engineering experience. Experience in other engineering disciplines is not credited. Advanced degree preferred.

• Associate degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, systems engineering, or a related technical field from an ABET‑accredited institution, plus 13+ years of directly applicable industry or government engineering experience. Experience in other engineering disciplines is not credited. Advanced degree preferred.
• Experience with complex aerospace, defense, automotive, robotics, avionics, embedded‑systems, or electromechanical development environments is desirable.
• Must have 12+ months of Special Access Program (SAP) experience within the last five years.
• Must possess an active Top Secret clearance (current within five years) and be eligible for SCI and SAP access.
