Join us as a Full-Time Journeyman 1 - Groundskeeper at UPMC Hamot!

Are you passionate about maintaining beautiful and safe outdoor spaces? UPMC Hamot seeks a dedicated Journeyman 1 - Groundskeeper to join our Facilities team. This role offers a Monday through Friday schedule from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with rotating weekends and holidays, and on-call responsibilities during winter for snow and ice management, with competitive pay.

Candidates should have hands-on groundskeeping experience and preferably a valid Pennsylvania Pesticide/Fertilizer Applicator License. Your work will support the hospital's healing environment for patients, families, and staff.

Hired candidates will be placed on the appropriate level of the career ladder based on experience, education, and leadership discretion.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain landscape and grounds properly.
  • Operate equipment such as lawn care tools, power washers, snow removal equipment, and related grounds equipment.
  • Perform maintenance on grounds equipment, including cleaning, painting, and minor repairs.
  • Maintain indoor/outdoor gardens and control litter as directed.
  • Assist with signage, plumbing repairs, irrigation systems, outdoor lighting, and other maintenance tasks.
  • Power-wash and maintain paved areas and sidewalks.
  • Report safety concerns and aesthetic issues.
  • Inspect and repair hardscape features like retaining walls and patios.
  • Follow infection control procedures.
  • Record work orders and submit hours daily.
  • Keep work areas clean and safe.
  • Perform other maintenance tasks as skills allow.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus one of the following:
    • Associates degree in turf management/horticulture or related field, or
    • Completion of mechanical trade school, or
    • Certificate in organic gardening with 2 years of experience in wall construction or hard surface work.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work overtime or off-hours when needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Valid Pennsylvania Pesticide/Fertilizer Applicator License.
Licenses and Clearances:
  • Driver's License
  • Act 34 clearance
