Sundog Theatre, Inc. is seeking enthusiastic Journalism Teaching Artists for the 2026-2027 school year to lead workshops and residencies in schools. You’ll help 4th–5th grade reporters draft and edit articles for a school newspaper, collaborating with a Photographer and Illustrator teaching team.

Applicants should have professional journalism experience and a passion for teaching in classroom settings; compensation starts at $50 per hour, with potential for additional newspaper layout work.

Qualifications

  • Professional journalism experience including interviews, research, and opinion pieces.
  • Experience teaching or working with K–12 students in educational or arts settings.
  • Ability to create engaging, accessible lesson plans and manage a classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Lead journalism lessons and deliver a school newspaper project.
  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment for diverse learners.
  • Collaborate with Sundog staff and school personnel.
  • Adapt lessons for ELLs and students with special needs.
  • Incorporate NYS Learning Standards and NYC Blueprints for Arts.
  • Communicate program progress and classroom needs to Sundog staff.
