Job summary

Duke Energy in Covington, KY seeks an experienced professional to negotiate and manage pole attachment and joint-use agreements with third parties. You will interface with Legal, administer inventories, and oversee billing and collections related to pole attachments.

The role requires strong accounting knowledge, contract familiarity, and effective communication. Independent work, planning and leadership are essential to optimize reimbursements and ensure accurate records.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is preferred.
  • 7 years related work experience is desired.
  • Detailed knowledge of Duke Energy accounting practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, and ability to work independently.
  • Good planning, organization and leadership capabilities.
  • Experience with contracts and legal documents; familiarity with NESC and codes.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and related IT tools.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate, prepare, manage and administer pole attachment agreements with third parties.
  • Interface with the Legal Department to develop and modify agreements.
  • Assist with pole attachment inventories.
  • Manage billing and collection of pole attachment fees.
  • Interpret terms of varying agreements accurately.
  • Manage pole attachment database and audit data accuracy with IT support.
  • Handle delinquent accounts and collections when needed.
  • Review and process Joint use engineering contractor invoices and billing.
  • Process new attachment requests and manage related make-ready expenses.
  • Provide guidance to field engineers for reimbursement accuracy.
  • Serve as SME to field engineers on terms and reimbursements.
  • Guide claims investigators on damaged poles.
  • Develop reciprocal pricing with joint owners as needed.
  • Audit records for attaching entities including insurance evidence.
  • Maintain relationships with attaching entities to manage operations.
  • Provide training on systems/tools used for third-party attachments.
  • Monitor NJUNS and ensure timely transfer/removal requests.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Negotiate, prepare, manage and administer pole attachment agreements and joint use agreements with third parties attaching to Duke owned poles.
  • Interface with the Legal Department as needed to develop and modify agreements.
  • Assist with pole attachment inventories.
  • Manage the billing and collection of pole attachment fees.
  • Responsible for interpreting the terms and conditions of varying and different agreements.
  • Responsible for managing the pole attachment database, auditing the accuracy of the data, and working with IT resources to support the attachment database.
  • Manage delinquent accounts and handle collections as needed.
  • Manage the review, approval, and processing of the Joint use engineering contractor invoices and engineering billing to the joint use customers.
  • Assist with the processing of new attachment requests and manage the billing and collection of make ready expenses associated with pole attachments and joint use activities.
  • Provide direction and guidance to field engineers to ensure accurate and prompt reimbursement of these expenses.
  • Serve as primary subject matter expert to field engineers related to interpreting the terms and conditions and applying them to reimbursements.
  • Provide direction and guidance to claims investigators regarding damaged poles.
  • Develop rates and reciprocal pricing with joint owners as needed.
  • Manage pole attachments accounts and relationships with attaching entities.
  • Audit files to ensure the accuracy of our records for each attaching entity, including evidence of insurance and surety bonds.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with attaching entities in order to proactively manage the operational relationship with each company.
  • Subject matter expert regarding pole attachment activities.
  • Initiate contact with other Duke employees to influence the development of standards and processes that impact third party attachments.
  • Provide training and guidance to field employees on the use of the systems and tools that are utilized to manage third party attachments to Duke facilities.
  • Responsible for attachment transfer notification tools such as NJUNS and for monitoring compliance with the timely completion of transfer requests and pole removal.
Requirements
  • Associates degree in Accounting
  • In lieu of Associates degree(s) listed above, High School/GED AND 5 year(s) related work experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (desired)
  • 7 years related work experience (desired)
  • Possesses detailed knowledge of Duke Energy accounting practices
  • Demonstrated effective communications skills (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly motivated and able to work independently with limited direct supervision
  • Demonstrated excellent planning and organizational skills
