Job summary

Ford Motor Company in Avon Lake, OH, is seeking a welding engineer/lead who will manage weld quality and joining activities for new model launches. You will develop weld control plans, lead inspections, and drive continuous improvement using 8D and other tools.

The role requires an Associate’s degree in welding-related engineering and experience with MS Office, welding processes, and joining techniques. Shift flexibility, including weekends, is expected, with a comprehensive benefits package

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in mechanical, electrical or weld engineering or equivalent experience.
  • One or more years’ experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Joining, AC/DC, Resistance spot welding, sealers and adhesive.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high weld and sealing quality process by following the Ford control plan.
  • Lead joining activities for assigned new model launches.
  • Implement weld certification strategy during launches and changes.
  • Lead weld inspection team.
  • Develop weld control plans and enforce requirements.
  • Apply engineering principles to improve manufacturing processes and products.
  • Implement corrective actions using 8D, 6-panel tools.
  • Identify sources of variation in production.
  • Support cross-functional teams including Quality, Production and Suppliers.
  • Review incoming quality concerns and initiate containment and corrective actions.
  • Ability to work any shifts, including rotating weekends.

In this position...

You will maintain a high weld and sealing quality process, by following the Ford control plan. When it comes to our best-in-class welding operations, your expertise is what will literally hold things together. That's because we're relying on you to lead the joining activities for a variety of assigned new model launches. You will:

  • Assess joining feasibility through Global Product Development System milestones.
  • Apply knowledge of welding processes, procedures, equipment, and evaluation techniques to deliver weld quality objectives.
  • Implement weld certification strategy during launch and product or process change events.
  • Lead weld inspection team.
  • Develop weld control plans and enforce requirements.
  • Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to establish and continuously improve manufacturing processes and products.
  • Implement interim and permanent corrective actions to resolve quality issues using 8D tool, 6-panel, etc.
  • Identify sources of variation within a production environment effectively and efficiently.
  • Support expedited concern resolution with multi-functional teams including the Quality Dept, Production, and Suppliers.
  • Review incoming quality concerns to maintain quality within Body Area and initiate containment as vital, resolving root cause and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ability to work any shift, as well as rotating shifts and weekends.
You'll have...
  • Associate’s degree in mechanical, Electrical or Weld engineering related degree; or a combination of equivalent experience and education.
  • One or more years’ experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Joining, AC/DC, Resistance spot welding, sealers and adhesive
Even better, you may have...
  • 2-3 years of supervisor experience
  • Weld Certification
  • Previous experience within a high-volume production facility.
  • Previous automotive, welding engineering and quality analysis experience.
  • Experience with Bosch controllers.
  • Experience with Kuka or Rockwell automation.
  • Sealant experience.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and team building skills

This position is a salary grade 6 and ranges from $74,300-$124,500.

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600-$144,900.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $99,100-$166,200.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
