Qualifications

  • Ability to interact professionally with individuals with autism and communicate well in writing and speech.

  • Support individuals in completing tasks and developing life skills to promote independence.

SSNY Cares, Inc. is an organization dedicated to expanding opportunities, building independence, and enhancing quality of life for adults with autism.

Position Summary

The Job Specialist will be required to work in any SSNY Cares Day program and/or work sites based on the needs of the agency and the individuals.

This position reports directly to the program supervisor and coordinator/Director. A Job Specialist will be required to provide direct care services to individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities while at a program site, work site, and/or in the community. Throughout the shift, the Job Specialist will engage and assist our individuals in ALL areas to complete daily tasks, and work on goals that promote independence by creating a safe, positive, and encouraging atmosphere. The job specialist will help individuals find and maintain suitable employment. The role includes but is not limited too: assessing individual’s skills, interest, needs, developing job search/career planning, resume writing, interviewing, connections with employers, offering ongoing support and coaching to ensure job retention.

Responsibilities include assisting with daily routines, personal care, medication management, behavior support, life skills development, documentation, transportation, and other activities.

You should be comfortable communicating clearly, using sound judgment, solving problems calmly, and working as part of a team in a professional care setting.

Training

No prior experience is required. SSNY Cares provides extensive hands‑on agency training to help new team members feel prepared and confident. Training takes place over two full weeks, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at our Freehold and or Morganville location.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or higher degree; diploma or transcripts must be provided.
  • Must be at least 20 years old.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks, including Central Registry, CARI, DMV, fingerprinting, drug screening, physical, and PPD.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with individuals with autism, solve problems systematically, and communicate professionally both verbally and in writing.
Pay and Benefits
  • Pay range: $19.00–$21.00 per hour.
  • Paid training.
  • $1,000 employee referral bonus.
