Job summary

The YMCA of Central New Mexico is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead energizing, safe group classes and help members achieve their health goals in a welcoming environment.

You will assess participants' health needs, adapt activities for diverse abilities, and uphold YMCA policies, including safety and child abuse prevention. A valid group fitness certification and CPR/First Aid/AED are required.

Qualifications

• National certification in group fitness instruction or YMCA group exercise instructor certification.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required.
• Child Abuse Prevention training must be completed within 30 days of hire.
• At least one year of experience teaching group exercise is preferred.
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
• Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the ADA.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe environment welcoming all individuals and build relationships with members and participants.
• Lead energizing, safe, and educational group classes aligned with health goals.
• Adjust approach to support participants' capabilities, health, and culture.
• Answer questions with empathy to support members' health and wellness goals.
• Identify and celebrate member and participant successes.
• Maintain knowledge of wellness trends to provide informed information and support.
• Keep accurate class attendance records.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Follow YMCA policies, including medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.

Overview

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Group Exercise Instructor at the YMCA of Central New Mexico serves others by intentionally welcoming, connecting, and supporting them and inviting them to get involved and give back to the community.

Responsibilities

• Creates a safe environment in which all individuals feel welcomed and respected; build relationships with and among members and program participants.
• Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, that align with the healthy living program goals and objectives.
• Understands different health needs; observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
• Asks and answers questions and displays empathy in support of helping member and program participants build confidence to achieve their health and wellness goals.
• Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.
• Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
• Keeps accurate class attendance records.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Posted Salary Range

USD $23.00 - USD $25.00 /Hr.
