Overview

Allison’s Earned Media Center of Excellence is an agency resource with a focus on earned media relations and media strategy. Team members bring outside thinking and tenured media experience to help clients overcome market and media challenges to achieve success. The Earned Media Center of Excellence operates across practice groups to provide industry insights to account teams and clients as well as media strategy and pitching support.

This senior-level position serves as a media strategist and agency advisor relevant to their field of expertise and assists in driving the direction and growth of the agency’s capabilities across earned media. As a leader in the cross-disciplinary Earned Media Center of Excellence, this position will oversee junior team members both in mentorship and direct management. This position will have at least one direct report.

In this position, you’ll be charged with guiding and supporting agency-wide earned media execution, media strategy, and supporting account teams to successfully deliver results that contribute to the overall business goals and priorities of the agency and agency clients. This position also requires development and management of scopes and direct client communication and counsel.

Responsibilities
  • Recommend new ideas/initiatives and lead elements of the Earned Media Center of Excellence including but not limited to Media Labs, Allison’s earned media workshops, and agency training sessions.
  • Work in partnership with Earned Media Center of Excellence senior team and/or practice group senior team to grow the agency’s earned media competency and team members' earned media skill set.
  • Lead in the development and implementation of account earned media strategy and earned media recommendations, including execution and counseling teams on more complex media strategies (i.e. exclusive strategies, background conversations, neutralizing a potentially negative story, etc.).
  • Assist senior leadership in troubleshooting specific media challenges and pivot and guide strategy when obstacles arise.
  • Edit and develop media pitches targeting a wide variety of media outlets.
  • Actively pitch and pursue media to secure earned media results across multiple agency accounts; and proactively develop new story angles for clients and teams.
  • Provide ongoing and consistent media updates to teams you’re supporting and offer specific client updates when appropriate.
  • Communicate evolving industry and media trends with the agency and specific practice groups.
  • Provide strategic counsel directly with clients and new business prospects on industry trends, challenges, and opportunities, advising on best approaches to achieve earned media results.
  • Lead and drive client calls in a team or individual, 1:1 setting.
  • Network with reporters and producers and build new relationships with journalists on behalf of the agency.
  • Independently manage hours, scopes and be proactive with open time to optimize availability.
  • Engage with client teams to identify new growth opportunities based on insights into the company, client, industry, and economy.
  • Support new business initiatives, develop media content and offer media insights and strategy and participate and lead in new business presentations.
  • Contribute to agency + local market marketing through thought leadership and networking.
  • Partner with EX+D team to develop learning content and workshops.
  • Promote and uphold Allison’s shared values and participate in agency-wide training and professional development programs.
Qualifications
  • Must be bilingual in Spanish and English, both written and verbal.
  • Prior experience working as a senior media specialist, director or equivalent in public relations, marketing, or a related field with a specific focus on earned media. Vice-Presidents at Allison typically have a minimum of 9+ years of experience.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate success in managing and adapting to multiple project deadlines start-to-finish, producing near-final versions of internal and client deliverables.
  • Self-motivated, eager to learn and enthusiastic about the work.
  • Strong media relations skills with existing and established media relationships.
  • Proficiency or specific industry knowledge and area of expertise.
  • Demonstrate strong interest in management and leadership.
  • Proficient writer and editor.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel, alongside Zoom and Teams.
  • Experience using media monitoring and data analytics tools like Muckrack, Critical Mention, Meltwater, and Cision.

In order to comply with equal pay and salary transparency laws in various locations, we believe the target range of base compensation in all locations within the United States for this role is $113k - $170k. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and location.
