Job description

Oklahoma State University is seeking applications for a staff scientist to help build and maintain the MRI and electrophysiological research infrastructure at the new OSU Biomedical Imaging Center. The candidate will help Center‑affiliated faculty and staff conduct cutting edge research, particularly in the areas of infant brain development, substance use disorder, childhood adversity, pain, and depression. The new Center is located along the Arkansas River just a few miles south of Tulsa’s new Gathering Place, in a 26,000 square foot building devoted to supporting OSU’s National Center for Wellness and Recovery, OSU Brain Initiative, and multiple large NIH‑funded projects, including the Center for Integrative Research on Childhood Adversity (CIRCA) and the Healthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) study. The Center will house a new Siemens 3T Prisma, full fluid‑based biomarker processing and long‑term storage lab, psychophysiology and EEG suites, and extensive clinical research space. Oklahoma State University is a vibrant and growing land‑grant university that values diversity and scholarship. The Center for Health Sciences and the Biomedical Imaging Center are located in Tulsa, which has a metro population of almost one million people, a low cost of living, and a rich cultural life.

For inquiries please reach out to Kyle Simmons (kyle.simmons@okstate.edu). Interested candidates can apply online at OSU Human Resources.

Duties:
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Center’s technical infrastructure, including the equipment necessary to support research protocols (e.g., stimulus delivery, psychophysiological measurements inside or outside the scanner, simultaneous EEG-fMRI, etc.).
  • Assist in coordination of Center technology, including PACS, and the transfer of research imaging data to OSU investigators.
  • Work closely with OSU faculty and researchers to develop, maintain, and optimize research MRI protocols, particularly research imaging with infants and children.
  • Assist OSU faculty in the analysis and interpretation of neuroimaging data.
  • Assist other Center staff in maintaining regular QA monitoring of the MRI scanner.
  • Attend required meetings and participate on committees as requested.
  • Work as a team member within the OSU Biomedical Imaging Center and an “extended team” member in the labs of research faculty affiliated with the Imaging Center.
  • This position will also support/encourage the candidate’s research interests. There will be opportunities to develop one’s own research portfolio, with presentations at national/international meetings, and publication of scientific findings.
  • This position will require someone who is excited about constantly tackling new challenges and learning new skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in neuroscience research.
  • Experience with Unix and shell scripting.
  • Experience with python programming or related programming languages.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a field related to biomedical research (e.g., Neuroscience, computer science, biomedical engineering, etc.).
  • Experience with MRI and peripheral experimental instrumentation.
  • Experience in neuroimaging data analysis or a demonstrated propensity for (non‑neuroimaging) data analysis suggesting a quick acquisition of neuroimaging data analysis skills.
