Job Description

Lake Champlain Maritime Museum is looking for additional staff in our Admissions and Museum Store. The Store Associate is the first person to greet each visitor as they arrive to the Museum and ensure they feel welcome. This position is responsible for greeting and checking in visitors, providing general information about the Museum and its exhibits, completing purchases from the Museum Store, and organizing and restocking inventory. We are looking for candidates who are strong team players and have a welcoming, inclusive attitude. Flexible schedule throughout the summer season and a great way to meet visitors to Vermont!

At Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, we are committed to using our skills as historians, archaeologists, and educators to help make systemic change in our work and in the museum field. As part of this, we have spent the past two years working to remove barriers to access and pursuing new research projects that shine a light on untold stories of women and people of color in the Champlain Valley. Yet, we recognize that there is more work to do to create space, challenge bias, and dismantle systems that reinforce inequality. This position will play a critical role in creating and maintaining a welcoming, accessible, and inclusive environment for everyone who steps onto the Museum campus. We are committed to improving the Museum experience for all people who work with us and connect with us and are looking for a candidate who is excited to join us in this important work.

Qualifications
  • Previous retail experience or interest in learning about point of sales
  • Strong customer service skills, active listener, and responsive to visitor feedback
  • Great communication skills and a welcoming attitude
  • Good attention to detail and organization skills
  • Strong team player and collaborative working style
  • An interest and commitment to DEI/representative work
  • A commitment to collaboration and an enthusiasm for Lake Champlain and its future
Responsibilities
  • First point of contact with Museum visitors
  • Orienting visitors to the Museum campus and providing general information on exhibits, events, and memberships
  • Opening and closing the Museum Store, including cashing out register
  • Opening and closing Museum exhibits on our 3-acre campus
  • Completing all transactions for admissions and Museum store purchases
  • Responding to visitor feedback and delegating as needed
  • Organizing and restocking store inventory
  • General cleaning in Museum spaces

This position will include standing for extended periods of time and requires the ability to lift 25+ pounds.
