POSITION PURPOSE: Within Student Affairs, the Department of Athletics serves the entire campus community and its alumni. It is responsible for creating an institutional culture that is supportive of students. The department provides leadership in the development of services and programs that enrich student life, extend, and enhance the academic experience, and contribute to an environment that encourages personal growth and development.
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services, and under the lead direction of more experienced Student Services Professionals, the Assistant Athletics Academic Advisor performs entry-level academic support work to assist student-athletes in progressing toward academic eligibility and graduation. This role supports the implementation of established academic success plans and assists in routine academic tasks in accordance with NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations. Work is performed with close supervision and follows clearly defined procedures to contribute to student retention and achievement goals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the appropriate knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: SEDENTARY WORK – involves mainly sitting; minimal walking and standing; lifting light weight objects limited to 15 pounds.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
SCREENING: Only those applicants possessing experience most directly related to the immediate needs of the office will be invited to appear before a Qualifications Appraisal Board for the purpose of appraising training, experience, and interest in the position.
