The Job Developer is responsible for developing employer relationships to identify job opportunities for individuals receiving Supported Employment services and address employer needs. This position markets skills and strengths of job seekers while utilizing specific sales approaches and negotiation skills to meet quarterly job placement goals. The position partners with individuals and their support teams to instruct and guide in job-seeking skills, self-image and attitude, and provides counseling, advocacy, and assistance in problem-solving, as needed.
Responsibility Level
Implements strategies to achieve the goals for the organization and strategically develops relationships with community employers to effectively assist individuals in accomplishing their goal of community employment. Sustains policies, procedures and programs. Typically works on projects and tasks that span 3 - 12 months.
Principal Duties
- Project and Change Management: Effectively plans and manages own work to reliably complete routine job responsibilities and special assignments. Periodically serves as a team member or subject matter expert on formal or department projects. Effectively engages in change affecting her/him, communicating appropriately with supervisor. Follows through on learning, skill building, and practice necessary to adapt to change.
- Problem Solving: General supervision, regular review of work by manager or senior coworker. May be paired with senior team member for development purposes. Uses skills to solve problems of routine complexity; able to identify root cause, interpret data, and resolve issues.
- Technical Skills: Fundamental knowledge of professional principles and skills. Works in compliance with established procedures.
- Community Engagement: Serves as an ambassador for Goodwill in the wider community. Participates in volunteer opportunities as schedules and interest permit.
- Leads efforts to market skills and strengths of job seekers through the utilization of specific sales approaches and negotiation skills, presentations to employers, job proposals and participation in business associations to meet quarterly job placement goals.
- Evaluates and assesses individuals' unique strengths, development areas, and interests using information from the discovery process. Strategizes and matches skills to different vocational interest areas while also meeting employer needs.
- Trains, instructs and guides individuals in job-seeking skills, self-image and attitude. Conducts case management type activities, such as counseling, advocacy, and assistance in problem-solving, as needed.
- Leads, supports and coordinates on needs of individuals to help them accomplish their goal of community employment. Communicates regularly with referral sources (DVR Counselors), families/guardians and fellow Goodwill staff to effectively partner in getting people successfully employed.
- Develops and fosters working relationships and collaboration with colleagues across Goodwill business units who are similarly focused on business development, placement or community outreach. Identifies and pursues job leads for Supported Employment individuals; develops the ability to cross-sell for other Goodwill business units, such as TalentBridge, Workforce Connection Centers, and Employment Services.
- Drives to achieve quarterly placement goals by coordinating, conducting and following up on temporary work experiences to evaluate job skills and interests. Trains and provides job coaching support to newly hired individuals and on a regular basis to assist and support the team. Elicits regular feedback from employers to ensure successful job retention.
- Prepares job development plans, objectives, monthly progress reports, task lists and records of job-seeking and job placement activities on a monthly basis.
- Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Two years of college education or experience equivalency, and a minimum of 1 year experience.
- Must have valid driver's license, necessary insurance and be able to legally operate a vehicle.

Physical/Sensory Demands
Remain stationary for extended periods of time, repetitive use of hands and vision required while using computer keyboard and work with written and electronic information, ability to facilitate coaching and training, travel required. Moves about to accomplish tasks.
When determining placement within the salary range for this position Goodwill Greater Milwaukee & Chicago considers education, experience, internal equity, market demands and other qualifying criteria. It is not typical for individuals to be hired at or near the top of the rage for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on facts and circumstances of each case.
