The Job Control Tech is responsible for ensuring that labor productivity and job costs are properly tracked on all jobs in their assigned territory with over $50,000 of labor, and that timely, accurate information about the status of open jobs is shared with those colleagues responsible for managing those jobs so that action can be taken to course-correct as needed.

A successful Job Control Tech will be comfortable reading construction drawings; walking jobs to identify issues and perform reverse takeoffs to quantify how much of the scope of a project has been completed to date; and updating the estimated cost-to-complete on open projects. Travel to different jobsites within the territory is often required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Before the job starts, work with Account Managers to break down jobs into work packages / cost codes that will allow them to be tracked efficiently
  • Set up jobs and cost code break-downs in the accounting system and/or project management software
  • Visit open jobs to track progress and identify construction issues including delays, added/reduced scope, change orders, releases and non-releases, congestion, specification deviations, inefficiencies, etc.
  • Identify any manpower issues
  • Update the accounting system and/or project management software with job progress, change orders, and adjustments to the estimated cost to complete
  • Prepare job control reports for all tracked jobs
  • Meet with branch, construction, and account managers responsible for the jobs being tracked to review the reports and to discuss any issues that you or they have identified

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Previous drafting experience or the ability to read blueprints
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel within assigned territory as necessary

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Autodesk Navisworks, BIM Track, and/or MIKE Estimating software
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Experience

Required Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • OSHA-10 Certification or willingness to earn it within a specific amount of time with company support
  • Field Construction experience or exposure to professionals in the construction industry

Preferred Education /Experience:

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in a discipline that requires analytical, communication, and/or organizational skills, or military service

Work Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • This position involves frequent travel within the assigned territory. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required.
  • This position frequently (75% of time) supports or inspects work performed at jobsites. On jobsites, employee may be exposed to weather conditions and may have to navigate uneven ground; climb ladders; and stoop, crouch or crawl.
