Job Description

Summary/Objective

Under the direction of the Transition Program Supervisor and in collaboration with the coordinator(s), job coaches support individuals with disabilities in developing, refining, and generalizing skills necessary for successful employment.

As a Paraeducator, you are responsible for assisting the teacher/therapist in providing instruction and support to assigned students in an educational setting, designed to promote intellectual, behavioral, emotional, and social growth. Paraeducators may be assigned to individual students or multiple students, all under the supervision of the teacher/therapist.

The position requires supporting students with various needs, including those exhibiting aggressive or self-injurious behaviors. Training will be provided to meet the individual needs of the students assigned to you.

Essential Functions

Job Coach Responsibilities:

  • Provides on-site job support for students to perform work duties.
  • Offers accommodations and adaptations at the work site to promote independence.
  • Maintains accurate data on student hours and performance.
  • Assesses student preferences, skills, and strengths to identify employment opportunities.
  • Practices employment preparation and retention skills on the job.
  • Accompanies students during job search and interviews; may transport students occasionally.
  • May be trained to transport students when qualified.

Paraeducator Responsibilities:

  • Assists with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) such as feeding, grooming, toileting, etc.
  • Monitors health conditions and medical issues.
  • Accompanies students on buses or other vehicles.
  • Cues, redirects, or monitors students to complete ADLs and participate in activities.
  • Implements each student's IEP and other support plans.
  • Assists with data collection and environment setup for instruction.

Note: This description is not exhaustive; duties may change as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility: None.

Work Environment: Moderate noise level; accommodations available for disabilities.

Physical Demands: Regular sitting, hands use, walking, reaching, talking/hearing; occasional lifting up to 25 pounds; vision requirements.

Position Type: Full-time, 185-day calendar, Monday-Friday; hours vary; occasional evenings/weekends.

Travel: May be required.

Education and Experience:

  • Valid PA Driver's License for transporting students.
  • Highly Qualified status with at least one of the following: Associate/Bachelor Degree, 48 college credits, or high school diploma with assessment.
  • Experience with students with disabilities preferred.
  • CPR & First Aid; Crisis Prevention training required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of disabilities preferred.
  • Initiative, relationship-building, organizational skills.

Work authorization in the U.S. required.
