Job summary

Bristol Adult Resource Center (BARC) seeks a Direct Support Professional to assist adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our Supported Employment program. Responsibilities include transporting individuals to workplaces, guiding tasks, and promoting independence while ensuring confidentiality and safety.

We encourage applicants with no experience to apply as we provide training. This is a part-time role in Bristol, CT with growth opportunities and a supportive nonprofit

Qualifications

• Direct Support Professional role requires compassion, reliability, and ability to work with adults with IDD.
• Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications and trainings (CPR/PMT).

Responsibilities

• Timely transport individuals to and from their place of employment.
• Assist in training, guiding and completing tasks at work sites.
• Promote personal growth and independence aligned with each individual's goals and plans.
• Record daily activities electronically while protecting confidentiality.

Bristol Adult Resource Center (BARC) is a non-profit organization supporting adult individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities by providing them with Residential, Vocational, Recreation and Day Support Services.

BARC is currently seeking professional, caring, and motivated Direct Support Professional (DSP) assisting individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in our Supported Employment program. Services include but are not limited to transporting individuals to and from their places of employment, guide and assist individuals as needed with work activities, promote personal growth and reaching their goals. In this position, expect to make an impactful and meaningful difference in someone else's life every day. Applicants with no experience or a career change are encouraged to apply – we will train the right candidates.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least age 18.
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record back 3 years, and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities:

• Timely transport individuals to and from their place of employment.
• Assist in training, guiding and completing tasks as applicable at place of employment.
• Assist management team in identifying and providing opportunities for learning new skills and independence working with each individuals’ goals and plans.
• Electronically record daily activities maintaining confidentiality and complying with all policies and procedures to protect the identity, medical, HIPPA information.
• Provide safe and nurturing environment where Individuals are treated with dignity, respect, can exercise their rights and responsibilities and are protected from abuse or neglect.
• Obtain and maintain all required certifications and trainings (in person and online).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Efforts:

• May include extended periods of standing and walking.
• Positions may require the ability to independently lift at least 25 pounds.
