Job summary

JAX Jackson General Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Tech-Certified to support nonprofessional direct patient care under RN supervision. You will assist with admissions, transfers, discharges and daily patient needs, while recording vitals and maintaining hygiene.

The role requires HS diploma, BLS within 30 days, and WV CNA certification or hospital program completion, with prior patient care experience preferred. Night shifts and 40-hour weeks are typical, with a non-exempt status.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assists in specimen collection and other activities for assigned patients.
• Maintains a clean, safe environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
• Reports equipment repairs to appropriate personnel promptly.
• Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
• Communicates with RN about nutrition issues and diet changes.
• Assists department with administrative tasks and answers patient call bells.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The Patient Care Tech-Certified performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities including personal, physical and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. The PCT-C will provide high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

3. Current WV Certified Nursing Assistant Certification or completion of hospital based certification program.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:

1. Prior patient care experience.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

3. Records the vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures. Records oral intake and outputs (temperature, blood pressure and other monitoring).

4. Assists in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.

5. Assists in indirect patient care by maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide for safety of patients, visitors and employees.

6. Reports all necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.

7. Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.

8. Communicates with RN regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.

10. Assists department with administrative tasks to support the department operations.

11. Answers patient call bell and relays message to appropriate personnel.
