As a Jet Bridge Technician I, you will ensure Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBB or Jet Bridges), Pre-Conditioned Air Units (PCAir), Ground Power Units (GPU), and select critical airport infrastructure and transportation systems are maintained and repaired.

Jet Bridge Technician I serves in a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Shop in the Airport Maintenance Department at Washington Dulles International Airport.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, and performing preventive maintenance on critical airport assets such as Jet Bridges, 400 Hz Aircraft Ground Power Units, PCAIRs, HVAC systems, and auxiliary equipment like Mobile Lounges, Plane-Mates, ARFF apparatus, and VMS. Maintains all critical airport transportation systems and performs related functions.

This is a developmental position leading to Jet Bridge Technician II. Incumbents have 24 months to train and demonstrate skills in HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems, with encouragement to pursue Master Electrician and Master HVAC licenses. Training includes manufacturer-provided courses in various areas listed in the original description. After 24 months and upon obtaining journey/master skills and certifications, a non-competitive grade increase to Jet Bridge Technician II is awarded.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Jet Bridges, GPUs, and PCAIR assets.
  • Use drawings, schematics, and manuals for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Maintain HVAC systems, including refrigerant handling per EPA regulations.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and computerized systems for maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Respond to equipment malfunction calls and perform on-site repairs.
  • Drive shop vehicles and operate airport equipment as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Journey level skill and four years of responsible experience in repair/maintenance of GPU/PCAIR systems or troubleshooting electrical systems or HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory, NEC, and electronic principles.
  • Ability to work safely on electrical systems and repair complex electronic/electromechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of EPA regulations related to HVAC repair.
  • Proficiency with trade tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Effective communication skills and computer proficiency.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Passenger Boarding Bridges maintenance.
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification.
  • Master Electrician and HVAC licenses.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED

State driver's license, EPA certification within 6 months, and Class B CDL within 90 days of employment.

NECESSARY SPECIAL FACTORS

  • Operate vehicle airside and landside with permits.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in hazardous conditions.
  • Use personal protective equipment and follow safety protocols.
  • Subject to emergency recall and work in varied noise levels.
