Job summary

Empower is seeking a Software Engineer – Java / Full Stack to design, develop, and modernize enterprise applications in the Retirement and Financial Services domain.

You will work with Java 21, Spring Boot, microservices, Kafka, REST APIs, Oracle, AWS, and cloud-native technologies to deliver scalable solutions. Strong backend fundamentals and collaboration across teams are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field.
• 2–5 years of software engineering or application development experience with enterprise-scale applications.
• Strong Java development skills including modern Java versions and features.
• Experience with Spring Boot and related Spring technologies.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs and microservices.
• Working experience with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and SQL.
• Experience with AWS and cloud-native development.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitLab) and version control.
• Understanding of event-driven architectures, distributed systems, and data streaming (Kafka).
• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and maintain microservices and REST APIs.
• Develop event-driven applications using Kafka and AWS MSK.
• Modernize legacy applications into cloud-native architectures.
• Design and optimize database queries and data-access components.
• Develop, deploy, and support applications on AWS.
• Implement resilience patterns, retries, idempotency, and fault tolerance.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitLab Runner.
• Troubleshoot performance issues across application, integration, and database layers.
• Collaborate in an Agile environment with cross-functional teams.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for components and APIs.
