Job description

The Java Developer will support an enterprise-wide initiative to upgrade applications from Java 8 to Java 18.

This role focuses on updating application code, libraries, dependencies, and frameworks to ensure full compatibility with modern Java standards.

The developer will collaborate closely with engineering, QA, and DevOps teams to ensure upgrades are stable, secure, and fully validated.

Key Responsibilities

• Upgrade existing applications and services from Java 8 to Java 18.
• Update and refactor code, frameworks, and third-party libraries to ensure compatibility with newer Java versions.
• Troubleshoot compile-time and runtime issues arising during the upgrade process.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to update build tools, CI/CD pipelines, and runtime environments.
• Ensure applications remain stable, secure, and performant throughout the upgrade lifecycle.
• Work with QA teams to validate functionality, resolve defects, and ensure post-upgrade quality.
• Document upgrade steps, code changes, and transition guidelines for consuming teams.

Required Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of professional Java development experience.
• Strong knowledge of Java 8, and hands‑on familiarity with versions 11, 17, or 18.
• Experience with Spring / Spring Boot development.
• Hands‑on experience using build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
• Proficiency with Git for version control.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, etc.).
• Strong debugging, problem‑solving, and unit testing skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience upgrading enterprise Java applications or modernizing legacy systems.
• Knowledge of dependency management, deprecations, and migration best practices.
