Job summary

Horizontal Talent is seeking a Senior Java Developer to build and support secure, enterprise-grade applications and backend services across on-premise and AWS cloud environments.

You will design, develop, test, and deploy RESTful APIs with Spring, JMS messaging, and strong security practices, collaborating with architects and product teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of related experience preferred.
• Strong Core Java and Spring expertise with REST APIs.
• Experience with JMS and messaging middleware.
• Knowledge of AWS and cloud-based environments.
• Experience with testing at multiple levels (unit/integration/functional).
• Ability to collaborate with architects and product teams.

Responsibilities

We're looking for a Senior Java Developer to help build and support secure, enterprise-grade applications and backend services that power critical business needs. This role offers the opportunity to work across both on-premise and AWS cloud environments, collaborating with technical partners while making a direct impact through hands-on development, testing, and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement robust web-based applications and backend components using Java and Spring technologies.
• Build and maintain API-driven solutions with a strong focus on performance, maintainability, and secure coding practices.
• Work across both legacy on-premise systems and modern cloud-based environments as part of ongoing application support and enhancement efforts.
• Develop and support messaging-based integrations using JMS and related middleware.
• Participate in coding, debugging, and technical troubleshooting to resolve complex issues efficiently.
• Write and execute unit, integration, and functional tests to help ensure software quality.
• Collaborate with architects, product teams, and other technical partners to deliver reliable solutions.
• Contribute to application security efforts by working within existing authentication and authorization patterns.
• Support development workflows using established build and deployment pipelines.
• Document solutions and contribute to a disciplined software development lifecycle.

Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Core Java and the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Framework and Spring Security.
• Proven experience developing REST APIs and working with JSON.
• Background in secure coding and application security best practices.
• Experience with unit, integration, and functional testing.
• Solid knowledge of JMS and messaging middleware, with IBM MQ preferred.
• Understanding of AWS and cloud-based technologies.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience.
• 8+ years of related experience preferred.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Angular for front-end development.
• Hands-on knowledge of Spring Boot and Spring Batch.
• Database experience with SQL and Oracle.
• Exposure to performance tuning and optimization.
• Familiarity with AWS services and cloud-based application support.
• Experience working in enterprise environments with established development standards and processes.

The pay range for this role is $79 - $114 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
