Job summary

Motion Recruitment partners with a leading global investment firm to hire a Java Back-End Developer. You will design, build, and modernize high-performance Java services supporting trading, cash management, and collateral platforms, with a focus on cloud-native architectures.

This role offers hands-on collaboration with front-office stakeholders, a hybrid schedule in Newport Beach, and exposure to AI-assisted engineering and AWS-driven modernization initiatives.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of Java back-end development experience.
• Strong experience building microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and distributed systems.
• Exposure to AWS and cloud-native technologies such as containers, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation.
• Experience with modern software development practices including TDD, automated testing, and DevOps methodologies.
• Interest or experience utilizing AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, LLMs, or similar technologies to improve development workflows.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and desire to work in a fast-paced business environment.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java-based microservices supporting trading, cash management, and collateral platforms (35%).
• Build new cloud-native applications and contribute to ongoing AWS migration and modernization initiatives (25%).
• Develop and maintain REST APIs, event-driven services, and distributed systems using modern engineering practices (15%).
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve code quality, testing, documentation, and engineering productivity (15%).
• Partner directly with portfolio managers, traders, and operations teams to deliver business-critical technology solutions (10%).
