Job Description

Work at Home Bilingual Jarai -English Phone Interpreter

Location: Work at Home position in United States

Pay: $0.75 - $0.90 per minute. Actual rates depend on the time of day or night and the level of interpretation as defined by LanguageLine Solutions.

Position Overview:

The Jarai Telephone Interpreter handles on-demand calls, conveying the meaning of conversations between Jarai and English speakers. The interpreter removes communication barriers across industries such as Healthcare, Government, Insurance, Financial, Utilities, Travel & Hospitality, General Business, Law Enforcement, Court, and 911.

The role requires quick, concise processing of information, recognition of cultural differences, professionalism, and appropriate terminology usage. Sessions may involve technical or non-technical topics, simple or complex.

This position involves verbal interpretation only; written translation is not required. Translators and linguists are encouraged to apply.

This is a remote position. The interpreter works from home, ensuring a quiet and secure environment.

Essential Job Functions

• Respond promptly to sessions, conduct interpretation professionally
• Render accurate concepts, adhere to interpretation protocols
• Speak clearly, use proper pronunciation and polite expressions
• Maintain professionalism and composure, especially in emergencies
• Be punctual and available during work hours
• Follow client instructions and protocols, avoid unnecessary interaction with LEP without permission
• Understand industry-specific terminology and protocols
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and diversity awareness
• Handle emotionally stressful calls, possibly for extended periods, maintaining high service standards

Qualifications

• Fluency in Jarai and English and understanding of cultural dynamics
• Ability to assess regional and accent differences, provide cultural competency
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills
• Ability to stay neutral, objective, and focused on sensitive topics
• Experience in language-related fields preferred
• Adaptability to technology enhancements
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Legal authorization to work in the US without future sponsorship
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to read and write in requested languages (highly preferred)

Post-offer background check/drug screen may be required based on location.

Technical Requirements

• Dedicated device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) with internet access
• Internet speeds of at least 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload
• Quiet, distraction-free environment

Physical Requirements

• Operate keyboard/mouse, remain stationary in front of computer
• Type/write manually, lift up to 26 lbs if needed
• May be exposed to moderate noise levels
