Join to apply for the Japanese Saturday Substitute Teacher role at Kennedy International School.

Kennedy International School provides a bilingual, well-rounded education for students from preschool through 12th grade. The school emphasizes a small student-teacher ratio, encouraging students to leverage their personal strengths and passions while developing their language and academic skills.

We are seeking a part-time Substitute Teacher for our Japanese Saturday School. The ideal candidate will possess a supportive attitude, a growth mindset, and a genuine joy for working with students. This position is available from now until July 2026, with classes on Saturdays from 8 am to 3 pm, reporting to the Saturday Japanese School Director.

Essential Duties
  1. Plan and deliver a challenging, developmentally appropriate curriculum, emphasizing differentiated instruction and effective assessments.
  2. Create an inclusive, positive classroom environment to foster learning.
  3. Maintain excellent communication with parents through emails, newsletters, or blogs.
  4. Share evaluations, grades, and homework with parents efficiently.
  5. Engage students actively in a student-centered classroom.
  6. Utilize technology appropriately in instruction and preparation.
  7. Model curiosity and cultural openness.
  8. Apply positive reinforcement, manage discipline, and resolve conflicts.
  9. Conduct classes with integrity and model appropriate behavior.
  10. Assess student work fairly and regularly.
  11. Report student concerns and seek support when needed.
  12. Supervise students during recess, lunch, and field trips.
  13. Stay informed about curriculum and instructional strategies.
  14. Pursue professional development opportunities.
  15. Collaborate with team members on planning and scheduling.
  16. Participate actively in faculty meetings and school community activities.
Requirements
  1. At least two years of teaching experience in lower school.
  2. Fluency in Japanese.
  3. Childhood Education Certification is preferred.
  4. Ability to create a safe, supportive classroom environment.
  5. Strong sense of accountability and passion for high-level student learning.
  6. Current U.S. work visa is preferred, if applicable.
