Job summary

IFS, the union affiliate of KBS, is seeking a Janitorial Crew Member to join our team in Nutley, NJ. The role supports a fast-paced environment with day/evening shifts and weekend coverage.

As a Full-time IFS employee (30+ hours per week), you’ll be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package including health, life, and a 401(k) plan with employer matching. Union employment terms may apply under the applicable CBA.

Qualifications

• Experience in building and warehouse cleaning work.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and maintenance instructions (English; Spanish where required).
• Effective communication with staff and public in a courteous manner.
• Willingness to perform other duties as assigned and follow directions.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain building floor surfaces: sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum, degrease and spot-clean.
• Clean furniture, walls, glass, mirrors, fixtures, machines and equipment; dust, wash, vacuum, polish.
• Gather and empty trash; service and stock restrooms.
• Move furniture or equipment as needed with basic tools.
• Prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications and safety data.
• Monitor facility issues and report repairs to Lead/Manager.
• Follow safety procedures and ensure doors are secured after hours.
• Ensure cleaning items and tools are properly stored and available for shifts.
• Report supply needs to Lead/Manager.

Work Schedule: Days/nights vary, including weekends

Shifts Available

6:00 PM - 10:00 PM (Monday to Friday)

Summary Of Duties

• Clean and maintain building floor surfaces, including but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, degumming and spot cleaning
• Clean furniture, walls, glass, mirrors, fixtures, machines and other equipment (e.g. Dust, wash, vacuum, and polish)
• Gather and empty trash
• Service, clean and supply restrooms
• May move furniture, light fixtures or other items manually or with hand truck
• May extract carpet (small jobs)
• Execute proper use of all equipment
• Clean and maintain cleaning equipment per instructions (e.g. rags, mops, machines, tools and buckets)
• Prepare cleaning solutions (water, detergents and other chemicals) according to specifications
• Monitor and report facility issues requiring repairs (notify Lead, Site or Zone Manager)
• Monitor building security and safety (lock doors after operating hours and ensure electrical appliances are turned off, etc.)
• Properly stack and replace cleaning items and tools
• Ensure supplies are available for each shift
• Report supply requisition needs to Lead/Manager

Requirements For Our Janitorial Crew Member Position

• Experience in building and warehouse cleaning work.
• Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved oral or written instructions.
• Communication skills to relate to officials, staff and public in a courteous manner.
• Disposition to perform other duties as assigned.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and safe handling for chemicals sheets/documents (generally in English; may have in Spanish where state required).
