Job summary

State of Hawaii's Department of Transportation, Airports Division, is seeking a supervisor for janitorial and custodial staff at airport facilities. You will oversee a crew of 4–6 inmate workers, coordinate cleaning, grounds maintenance, and basic building upkeep to keep areas safe and presentable.

This role requires two years of janitorial or custodial experience and one year supervising subordinates, plus a valid driver's license and successful completion of a federal background check.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of janitorial or related custodial work such as sweeping, dusting and cleaning of buildings.
• One (1) year of supervisory experience including scheduling and inspecting subordinates, instructing employees, maintaining discipline, ensuring safety, and keeping records.

Rotating Shift Work

All applicants must be available to work rotating shifts, including evening and weekends.

This position supervises the work of a group of janitors and other custodial personnel in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings and building areas; and perform other related duties as assigned.

This position supervises a crew of 4-6 inmate workers and is responsible for the janitorial and housekeeping functions of the facility including the maintenance of grounds adjacent to buildings, minor repairs and simple building maintenance tasks not requiring trade skill such as carrying and moving heavy furniture and equipment, cleaning place and equipment , etc.

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements

General Experience

TWO (2) YEARS of janitorial or related custodial work such as sweeping, dusting and cleaning of buildings.

Supervisory Experience

ONE (1) YEAR of experience which included responsibility for:

• scheduling and inspecting the work of subordinates
• instructing employees in the proper method of performing the work
• maintaining discipline
• insuring that safety practices are adhered to
• keeping records of work activities.

Driver's License

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Federal Criminal History Records Check

In accordance with Federal regulations, persons who are being considered for employment in positions which require unescorted access to secured areas at the airport, must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check. In order to be granted the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance, prospective employees must not have been convicted, or found "not guilty by reason of insanity," of a disqualifying criminal offense within 10 years from the date of the application. Upon recommendation for hire, prospective employees will be required to successfully undergo the fingerprint-based criminal history record check and be found free of disqualifying convictions during the preceding ten years. The cost for the records check will be the applicant's responsibility.
