Under the direction of the Sheriff and Jail Administration, the Jail Sergeant is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and directing correctional personnel, and assuring the implementation and compliance of jail policies, procedures, and rules. The Jail Sergeant is responsible for assuring and maintaining jail security, proper intake processes, sanitation, and safety procedures, as well as assisting with the training of new correctional personnel. The Jail Sergeant is responsible for reporting, handling, and initiating emergency procedures within the facilities, as well as providing assistance to jail administration concerning personnel actions. The Jail Sergeant will assume shifts in the jail for unforeseen staff shortages, including understaffed post.
The job requires an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement, Corrections or related field, and five years of Minnesota Government access related corrections experience or equivalent. A valid driver’s license is required upon hire.
