Job summary

The City of Boaz is seeking a semi-skilled jail guard to perform specialized guard, clerical and custodial work in the Municipal Jail. You will assist in jail operation and inmate management on an assigned shift, under supervision of the shift Captain/Sergeant.

Responsibilities include security, booking, records, and inmate welfare. Required are a high school diploma or equivalent and some related experience; 19+ years of age and Alabama driver’s license are typical prerequisites.

Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training equivalent to graduation from senior high school.
Some experience in police administration is desirable.

Responsibilities

Conduct bed checks and inmate counts.
Monitor inmate health and safety; transport ill inmates and dispense prescribed medications.
Maintain jail areas and secure windows/doors; monitor fire alarms and cameras.
Complete booking procedures including reports, fingerprinting, mug shots, and medical screens.
Review medical screening sheets and arrange medical appointments.
Isolate inmates as needed and brief staff on problems.
Manage inmate visiting, phone calls, and visitation records.
Maintain professional appearance and attitude; participate in training.
