In a secure environment, our Jail Property Clerks:
Receive, inventory, and secure property received from inmates or arrestees; maintain strict chain of custody records; provide a secondary search of property for contraband; maintain accurate records retention and record-keeping systems; perform various clerical and administrative functions in support of agency; scan and index medical and property forms; receive and secure currency; answer phones.
Pull and release property and clothing; retrieve property in answer to inmate requests; inventory and destroy property when applicable.
Testify for court proceedings in response to subpoenas; document and coordinate the transfer of articles from property to a requesting department (i.e. criminal evidence, CCW license, medications, prescriptions, and legal documents); confiscate counterfeit money to ensure that it is removed from circulation.
This is a 3rd shift position, 10:30pm - 7:00am. Person would work 4 days on and 2 days off, not M-F.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Previous customer service experience a plus.
Knowledge of: Agency policies and procedures, safety and security practices and procedures, safety techniques when handling potentially infectious materials.
Skill in: Data entry; Use of the internet, email, and basic communications devices. Use phone, copy machine, printer, scanning devices, calculator, and general office equipment.
Ability to: Maintain accurate records; add, subtract, multiply in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions or decimals. Post data accurately to the computer; carry out detailed oral and written instructions; sort items into categories according to established procedures; gather, collate and classify information about data, people, and/or things; prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports; respond to routine inquiries from general public, county officials, and other employees; communicate effectively in written and oral form; develop good rapport with co-workers, supervisors and public; copy material accurately and recognize grammatical and spelling errors; write and print legibly; scan and index forms.
