The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a skilled and dedicated Jail Maintenance Operations Specialist with strong experience in HVAC systems to support the safe, secure, and effective operation of the Larimer County Jail. This position is ideal for a hands-on maintenance professional with multi-trade expertise and the ability to lead others, especially those with proven skills in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration.

The starting salary range for this position is $64,690 to $77,628.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do:

  • Perform journey-level HVAC maintenance and repairs, including preventive servicing of heating, cooling, refrigeration, and ventilation systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC and mechanical system issues, including boilers, pumps, fans, filters, and electronic controls.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and retrofit complex HVAC equipment in accordance with technical diagrams, manuals, and industry standards.
  • Supervise inmate workers and coordinate their efforts in cleaning and basic maintenance tasks.
  • Work across trades to ensure the safe and proper operation of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems throughout the facility.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair specialized detention facility systems, including intercoms, CCTV, electronic locks, laundry/kitchen equipment, and more.
  • Read blueprints and schematics; interpret technical documentation for repair and installation work.
  • Ensure all work is conducted with strict adherence to safety procedures and security protocols within a correctional setting.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Three (3) years of experience performing a variety of building maintenance work involving mechanical, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, and plumbing tasks required; work in a corrections or detention environment preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License by date of hire is required.
  • Possession of CPR and First Aid certifications by the date of hire is required.

Applicants must meet all of the following:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Cannot have a felony conviction

  • No convictions involving domestic violence

  • No use of illegal drugs within the past five years

  • Your direct supervisor will then write a Letter of Support and route that Letter of Support through your chain of command.

  • Your next-level supervisor/manager endorses your direct supervisor's Letter of Support.

  • Your mid-level manager then endorses your Letter of Support.

  • Your Division Commander then endorses your Letter of Support.

  • Submit your fully endorsed Letter of Support along with your application.

  • The Sheriff’s Office prohibits possession of marijuana by employees under any circumstances and expects employees to comply with federal law.
