Job summary

Janke General Contractors, Inc. in Wisconsin seeks an experienced Estimator/Drafter to support fabrication operations through estimating, drafting coordination, and procurement.

This role emphasizes developing accurate project estimates, coordinating drawings, and maintaining project records within a transportation infrastructure context. The ideal candidate has construction, structural steel, or bridge project experience, with strong communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in construction management, engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years in construction, structural steel, bridge construction, or related industry.
  • Experience with estimating and drafting coordination.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; CAD experience preferred, training available.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and negotiation skills; excellent written/spoken communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and material calculations.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for fabrication and installation projects.
  • Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Assist in preparing proposals, bids, and contract pricing.
  • Maintain estimating databases and historical cost records.
  • Coordinate preparation and review of shop drawings and fabrication drawings.
  • Work with engineers, detailers, and customers to ensure drawing accuracy.
  • Review drawings for constructability and compliance with project specs.
  • Manage drawing revisions and approval processes.
  • Maintain project documentation and drawing records.
  • Schedule and coordinate material shipments and deliveries.
  • Plan transportation of fabricated components to job sites.
  • Coordinate with trucking companies, installation crews, and project stakeholders.
  • Monitor shipping schedules to ensure timely project execution.
  • Resolve transportation and delivery issues as they arise.
  • Procure raw materials, hardware, coatings, and subcontracted services.
  • Issue purchase orders and track material deliveries.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, and supplier agreements.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Monitor inventory requirements to support production and installation schedules.
