Job summary

Southland Holdings is seeking a Construction General Laborer for a large heavy civil project in Tampa, FL. This role requires physical work, the ability to work in all weather conditions, and adherence to safety and DOT requirements.

Responsibilities include site setup, loading/unloading materials, operating basic equipment, and assisting skilled crews. A valid driver’s license is preferred, with a strong work ethic and independence valued.

Qualifications

• Construction experience in underground utility, heavy highway, bridges, dirt work, and/or welding, etc.
• Trenchless experience working around specialized equipment such as Tunnel Boring, Guided Boring and/or Auger Boring Systems
• Heavy equipment experience preferred, loading/unloading materials, excavating soil, operating and maintaining excavators, backhoes, skidsteers, bucket loaders, and/or forklifts, etc.
• Jobsite set up experience interpreting plans and specifications, using surveying equipment to calculate grade and alignment.
• Essential duties include climbing ladders into and out of earthen pits/trenches, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, stooping, squatting, lifting and climbing, full range of motion and use of arms and legs.
• Must work in all weather conditions, be prepared for both extreme hot/cold.
• Must work independently, maintain good schedule, available for OT.
• Must have basic knowledge of heavy civil construction.
• Successful applicants must have a valid driver's license (Class A CDL w/ Tanker Endorsement preferred) and past a DOT physical, drug test and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Climb ladders into/out of earthen pits/trenches and perform tasks requiring bending, reaching and lifting.
• Assist with site setup and interpretation of plans and specifications.
• Support heavy civil construction activities and equipment operation.
• Maintain safety and comply with DOT and project requirements.
