Job summary

FabCorp/Hammonds in Tomball, TX is seeking an Experienced Painter Level 1 to support production by performing all day-to-day painting activities under the direction of the Coatings Manager. The role requires reading blueprints, mixing paints, masking, coating, and performing quality checks.

Candidates should have 3 to 5 years of related experience and be able to operate paint pots and spray guns. This is an hourly, non-exempt position with opportunities to work with valves, actuators, subsea

Qualifications

  • Read blueprints and follow specifications precisely.
  • Use wet and dry film gauges to verify thickness.
  • Paint intricate surfaces such as valves and actuators.
  • Apply epoxy coatings (3 coat) as required.
  • Operate paint pots and conventional spray guns.
  • Move and mask parts per drawing and schedule.
  • Maintain paint booths and ensure safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day painting activities as directed by the Coatings Manager.
  • Mix paints per coating specifications and apply to parts.
  • Hang parts for coating and ensure masking per drawings.
  • Coat parts as instructed and perform quality checks.
  • Touch up and place completed parts for shipping.
  • Maintain and clean equipment and booths daily.
  • Follow safety guidelines and notify supervisor of issues.

Reports to: Shop Supervisor
Job Type: Hourly, Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

Performs all day to day painting activities as instructed by the Coatings Manager, to support production operations.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
  • Read, interpret and follow blueprints, diagrams, engineered drawings, specifications and other written instructions or procedures to accurately coat equipment or products.
  • Mix paint per coating specifications as instructed in work order.
  • Hang or place parts for coating process in designated areas.
  • Ensure parts are masked per drawing as needed prior to coating.
  • Coat parts as instructed in work order or as directed by supervisor.
  • Perform quality checks as required during coatings applications.
  • Touch up, unmask and place completed parts on shipping pallets.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment daily or as instructed.
  • Upkeep of paint booths including storage cabinets and mixing room.
  • Confer with supervisor regarding quality or procedure problems.
  • Clocks in on all applicable work orders.
  • Monitor and submit request for shop tools and supplies.
  • Move products or equipment by use of forklift.
  • Upkeep and cleanliness of work areas.
  • Follow company safety & security guidelines
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.
  • Other duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience
  • Must understand how to use wet and dry film thickness gauges & calculate to determine wet film thickness form volume solids
  • Experience using paint pots and conventional spray guns
  • Experience to paint intricate surfaces, such as: valves, actuators, subsea equipment, etc.
  • Must be experienced on applying (3) coat epoxy.
DESIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employee may be required to do the following: climbing into and out of equipment; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands, fingers and feet to operate tools and equipment; lifting up to 30 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; crawling; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction. The employee is frequently required to stand while performing the duties of this job (approx. 80%) walk (15%) and occasionally sit (5%). The employee is expected to lift or move materials (75% of workday)
