Job summary

PharMerica, a BrightSpring Health Services affiliate, is hiring a full-time Pharmacy IV Technician in Houston, TX. You will work in a non-retail setting focused on long-term care and senior living clients.

Responsibilities include sterile compounding, prescription preparation for residents, QA support, and collaboration with Pharmacists. Required: state license and 6–12 months IV experience. Benefits and career growth offered.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Pharmacy Technician license as required by state.
  • 6 months to 1 year IV pharmacy technician experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to operate a computer and recognize medications.
  • Detail oriented with strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Sterile Compounding Room per USP 797 and state standards.
  • Prepare and fill prescriptions for long-term care residents.
  • Support QA processes and ensure compliance with documentation.
  • Assist pharmacists with data entry, refill coordination, and nursing-home communications.
  • Stage and fill medication orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain infusion pumps and other sterile equipment; calibrate as needed.
  • Replenish Emergency Drug Kits for long-term care facilities.
  • Track shipments of Alere packages via third-party providers.
  • Support inventory management and general department tasks.
  • Collaborate with Lead IV Technician and Pharmacy Supervisor to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Report any USP 797 compliance concerns.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Schedule:

Rotating Monday - Friday 7am-4pm & 1:30pm - 10pm

Rotating weekends & holiday

Additional Information:

  • pharmacy tech license as required by state
  • ACPE IV certification
  • 6-12 months IV compounding experience
  • Experience with repeater pumps & large batch processing is preferred
  • Familiarity with Framworks

As a Pharmacy IV Technician you will:

  • Clean, maintain, and monitor the Sterile Compounding Room in accordance with USP 797 and state regulatory standards. Compound sterile preparations, including those from non-sterile powders, within a Class 100 cleanroom environment.
  • Prepare and fill prescriptions for long-term care residents and Alere high-risk pregnancy patients, following established policies and quality standards.
  • Support quality assurance (QA) processes, ensuring compliance with all compounding and documentation requirements.
  • Assist pharmacists with data entry, refill coordination, and communication with nursing homes and Alere clients.
  • Stage, prepare, and fill medication orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain and clean infusion pumps and other sterile compounding equipment, ensuring proper calibration and safety.
  • Replenish and maintain Emergency Drug Kits (EDK) for long-term care facilities.
  • Perform shipping and tracking of Alere packages via third-party overnight logistics providers.
  • Support inventory management, filing, answering phones, and stocking areas within the IV department.
  • Collaborate with the Lead IV Technician and Pharmacy Supervisor to maintain a safe, compliant, and organized work environment.
  • Promptly report any operational or compliance concerns related to USP 797 standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Pharmacist, IV Supervisor, or Director of Pharmacy.
