Job summary

Polaris Pharmacy Services of Tampa is seeking an IV Pharmacy Technician who will work under a Registered Pharmacist to fill prescriptions, prepare sterile compounding, and ensure compliance with state regulations. The role includes data entry, QA, and patient care coordination within a fast-paced facility.

The position requires at least one year as an IV technician in a long-term care setting, strong attention to detail, and knowledge of USP 797 guidelines.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Pharmacy technician license/certification required by state regulations and state of practice.
  • Minimum of one year working as an IV pharmacy technician required (long-term care pharmacy preferred).
  • Experience working with medications, IVs, and filling prescriptions required.
  • Order entry and insurance billing experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain Sterile Compounding room and QA per USP 797 guidelines.
  • Fill prescriptions and prepare Sterile Compounding under supervision.
  • Stage, Prep, and fill orders for residents at long-term care facilities.
  • Compound Sterile Compounding orders in a Class 100 clean room under supervision.

Job Summary:

The IV Pharmacy Technician works under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. Required duties are pursuant to specific Board of Pharmacy defined technician tasks, which may include, accurately filling prescriptions, preparing Sterile Compounding medications, entering computer data, following standard procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Clean and maintain Sterile Compounding room and QA as per USP 797 guidelines for a state law as directed by supervisor
  • Work under direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, fill prescriptions and prepare Sterile Compounding according to Polaris standards of quality, customer service, productivity guidelines, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations
  • Knowledge of Long Term and Post- Acute Care
  • Stage, Prep, and fill orders for residents at long-term care facilities and high-risk pregnant women
  • Compound Sterile Compounding orders in a Class 100 clean room as directed by Pharmacists, IV Supervisor, and/or Director of Pharmacy
  • Responsible for data entry
  • Assist pharmacist with calling care facilities
  • Maintain, clean and account for pumps
  • File, answer phones, and stock areas in the IV department as appropriate and directed by supervisor
  • Work with Lead IV Technician to maintain a clean/safe work environment, check equipment for calibration, safety, and cleanliness
  • Replenish and maintain Emergency Drug Kits (EDK) provided to Long Term and Post-Acute Care Facilities
  • Follow all applicable government regulations, including HIPAA
  • Communicate with Pharmacist, Supervisor, or Lead Technician about any concerns regarding USP 797 and Operations
  • Comply with departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code
  • Overtime, holidays, and weekends may be required and/or expected
  • Other duties as assigned; Job duties may vary depending on business needs
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Data entry skills, analytical, ability to multi-task
  • Basic computer knowledge skills required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required
  • Good organizational skills and detail oriented
  • Basic math and analytical skills
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Ability to physically perform light lifting.
  • Must be able to work various shifts and days.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Pharmacy technician licenses/certifications required by state regulations and state of practice
  • Minimum of one (1) year working as an IV pharmacy technician required (long-term care pharmacy preferred)
  • Knowledge of brand name/generic medications
  • Experience working with medications, IV’s, and filling prescriptions required
  • Order entry and insurance billing experience required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • May sit or stand seven (7) to ten (10) hours per day
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, bend, walk
  • May be necessary to work extended hours as needed
  • May lift and/or move up to 30 pounds

HOLIDAY & PTO POLICY

Paid holidays are provided annually, with 6 days offered each year, along with 5 sick days.

Employees earn up to 10 PTO days each year, with rollover options and milestone bonuses.

Employees have the option to cash out up to 10 PTO hours each quarter for added financial flexibility.

Please note, because we are a pharmacy most of our locations are open 24-hours a day, 7 days a week and therefore schedules may change as determined by the needs of the business.
